All week long... all game long... all I hear from "the media" and NFL.com is Sean Payton trade to Dolphins or somewhere else, Brees taking a paycut, Saints cutting Brees, trade involving Brees and Sean Payton, Saints firing Sean Payton...

Then Jeff Duncan publishes the biggest piece of crap article in NOLA.com asking Tom Benson to please sell the Saints and Pelicans?

Who makes this crap up? Oh the media, that's right.

Ian Rappaport is not a source.
NFL.com is a mouthpiece for Goodell (out to give the Saints a black eye).
Saints need a media person to deny EVERYTHING.
Jeff Duncan of the T-P and Nola.com does NOT speak for the fans.

Sad!

What a dumbshyte!

Yep, he'll restructure, get more guaranteed money from the Saints and fans/media will call it a "pay cut."

Fans I can understand, but the sports media should know better.

It's the Tom Brady move. He did this and the media pleasures themselves raw over how amazing it was that he took a "pay cut" even though he ended up making the same amount just without the same cap hit to the team.

No, I have worked with the sports media (was one) and the average one knows less about finance than your average homeless person. Honestly.

Yup, and increased his guarantee. That is the win/win I mentioned earlier in this thread ... and about five hundred other times over the past three years on this site.

Depends how the O-line gets fixed wheathr Brees is worth whatever he gets or don't get. I would hate to see a high dollar qb. having to run for his life. Brees isn't a spring chicken anymore.

Seems we are having a hard time as is, not being able to afford a defense... just sayin'

We lose Brees and we can kiss being competitive bye bye for several years. He is still a better option than anyone else out there or anyone else in the next couple of years drafts. He has plenty left in the tank. Get a good receiver in the draft and be on the lookout for a replacement that can come in in a year or two and sit for a year before taking over. Brees can still get it done at an elite level for two or three more years if we can get him another receiver to throw to and some help up front.
No sense in getting rid of a franchise QB just because it feels like time for a change from some fans.

Extend his contract like the above poster said.

We can afford a defense. We have more money tied up in defense than we do in offense if you exclude Brees. Loomis got us the money to build a very good defense. The scouting and coaching staff just made poor choices on who to spend that money on.
