New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson picked a good time to post the best numbers of his career.
Watson, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, has caught 68 passes for a career-high 766 yards and five touchdowns with one game left to go. For only the second time in his career, he has started every game he's played. If most players are supposed to decline over the age of 30, Watson, 35, might be aging backwards. "Coming into this year, I didn't know what to expect. I, we, are all disappointed at the outcome as far as winning goes. ... On a personal note, I am proud of the fact that I was able to be present at all the games, I was pretty much healthy and I was able to play a part in the offense," Watson said. "It's always fun to be involved in that way. ... I've enjoyed playing with all these guys and especially that guy No. 9." read more |

Yep that is why the saints need to look at the only real option in the draft, are all Jr's, so till the Jr come out a cheap FA TE will give you the same results. If many follow Butt and stay in school then Ben becomes a huge must lock up player

I think he'll want to stay. He knows he has a understanding with Brees. He doesn't come across as the type that will just be looking for money.

im fine with resigning him if he is not too expensive. two or three year deal. We really kind of need him. I doubt we can find anyone better for now. Maybe draft a TE late and see how he shakes out for 2017

Extend his contract for a couple of more years only. Getting production from him will only get harder to do in a couple of years.

I doubt he will demand big money at 35 yrs old. Offer him 4 million over 2years.

Re: Saints tight end Ben Watson could become free agent after posting career-best numbers
He is very bright and will have a life after football as a coach, in the booth, or in the real world.
He made 1.9 this year, so he might get 4.5 for 2yrs, but at that age probably won't get a lot of attention from other teams. Three good reasons to lock him down: stability and relationship with Brees, potential that he stays with the organization afterwards, and WAY too many other positions to worry about in the off-season |

Just heard on the NFL Network that today is IT! The band breaks up after the game. Payton goes to S.F. Brees won't take a pay cut and he goes too!
