Re: So the wait begins
Brees is staying, imo. For some weird reason lots of people think if Payton leaves, Brees leaves. Brees is not a free agent, and I don't know who is going to trade for a QB his age with his price tag. Brees could help a lot of teams, but he's extremely expensive. I would think any team willing to pay out a lot of money for a QB would rather someone they can lock up long term.
I know Brees says he wants to play until he's 45, and I hope he does, but that's not very realistic. Peyton Manning is the only guy I know of who became a free agent in his mid 30's while still being a top tier QB. And because of that, he is the only one at that age who got a mega deal. It worked for a little while, but the last two years he hasn't been close to his old form. That should be a lesson for any team thinking of throwing that kind of money at an aging QB. That's why I think he stays here. Got to bring that cap number down, but I'm guessing that will happen. It's easier to manage an expensive QB when you already have him under contract, and can restructure like the Pats did with Brady. I just have a little less confidence in Loomis. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Hire Tomsula as the DC and I think we'll be just fine.

Re: So the wait begins
As i said on another thread id see if he would be willing to coach the defensive line and id see if Singletary wanted to coach the linebackers. Both are great positional coaches but not been able to take the big job. Let them rebuild there rep here

Re: So the wait begins
I am torn....I don't want Payton gone, because good coaches are few and far between. However, a change may be good for everyone. What I don't like to hear is Doug Marrone being atop the list of replacements. He has a sub .500 record spanning 6 years in college and the NFL. Some people are just not cut out to be a head coach. Also, when he left after the 2008 season, the offense did not suffer so, he isn't some offensive genius. He went to Jacksonville to work with the Oline and they give up 51 sacks on the year. The guy is not good, but hey, that is just my opinion.

Re: So the wait begins
I am going to predict Sean Payton stays with the Saints. If he does leave, I predict Dennis Allen will be the new head coach for the Saints.

I don't think it was that injury, and I have heard nothing about him losing anymore feeling in his fingers. It's that he is old and his offensive line has faltered, so he's just breaking down. And the same thing is happening with Brees, though Drew has managed to survive so far... he needs better protection, are he won't last much longer. Anyone can have their career ended at any time, as we all know, but when you're older it stands to reason that you break down quicker. I don't buy into all that nutrition stuff. That's good for your heart, but it won't save your bones from getting cracked.
There are rules in place to protect QB's now, but if you don't have protection you're still going to get beat up. |
