If we dont get Payton back...
Tom Coughlin is available. He'd be my pick.
Guarantee Training Camp wouldnt be at a Country Spa, it would be in Mississippi. (he's on NFL Films, asking Houston guys why they practice in the bubble, says, "I would use that." (referring to the heat) I know the Giants D struggled this year, but historically, he's had strong Defenses. Couple of Super Bowl Rings. Even Jacksonville was above respectable under his lead. But for the record, I want Payton back, if he wants to be back. |
Re: If we dont get Payton back...
I think Tom is done, done.

Re: If we dont get Payton back...
I doubt Payton is coming back, but seriously who knows for sure. Saints are smokescreen masters. If Payton doesn't comeback, I could see the logic with a guy like Tom Coughlin. I want to throw this out there, why doesn't Pete Carmichael get any consideration? I don't think I ever see his name floating around for head coaching gigs. Yeah, we all know that Payton is pretty much calling the shots, but here is a guy in Carmichael you would think has had some exceptional training and should be at least be interviewing around the league???

Re: If we dont get Payton back...
Sean returns in 2016.
I'm confident of this. |
Re: If we dont get Payton back...
I think Payton has a press conference today at 1 pm. So I'm expecting, more like praying, he says im staying and all the media people are full of it.

Re: If we dont get Payton back...
If Sean Payton leaves, Saints should keep his offense - New Orleans Saints Blog- ESPN
Pretty decent piece there about the possibility of keeping Carmichael around to keep the offence running even if SP would leave. It makes sense if you ask me. |
Re: If we dont get Payton back...
I wouldn't be opposed to Caughlin. I think he is done though, he's old as dirt. He sure doesn't let his teams give up.

Re: If we dont get Payton back...
Truly believe Payton stays. Again I think it has to do with the ownership case with Benson and his family and an extension for Drew. Extend Drew for 3 years and make it clear for Payton if ownership structure changes he can leave if he wants

Re: If we dont get Payton back...
I guess I'll ask the dumb question:
Are contracts meaningless? Sean Payton is under contract. He cannot leave the Saints and coach anywhere else unless he is released from that contract. He can walk away from that contract. But he cannot coach anywhere else without the Saints releasing him. BTW Payton already has a clause in his current contract that gives him the option to walk if there is a change in ownership. Re: If we dont get Payton back...
I would be completely comfortable with Tom. Completely. But I hope Sean stays.

Re: If we dont get Payton back...
There are only a couple of guys I think are as good or better than Payton as a HC and none are close to him offensively. Brees are Carmichael could retain some semblance of our offense but that is a 2-3 year plan at best. IF Sean left I want someone who could leave the offense alone for a couple years and focus on everything else, so likely a defensive minded guy.
If and when Payton does leave I would hope it is around the same time John Harbaugh is looking for a change of scenery. |

Nope. Main reason, do you want to force your head coach to stay if he don't want to and expect him to do a good job? So if there are 6 teams trying to get him, you put up a price tag for that and get the most you can. |
Re: If we dont get Payton back...
Sean will end his career here. Name one coach who's better the coach Payton.
