If he doesn't win that Superbowl, then Jim Mora would still be the greatest in our history, because he won more consistently, and he was the FIRST to win here. It still comes down to what have you done for me lately, even if that doesn't seem fair. I didn't want him fired this year, but I have been on record as saying that this organization needs to start moving back in the right direction soon, or it will be time for a change. Some coaches become stale in one place. Call it complacency, or maybe it's something about the environment they're in, that they get tired of. And some guys just get too old, but that one doesn't apply to Sean, obviously. So you don't just hold onto a guy forever because of one great season and a couple of good one's. He's earned the right for more time. But after another season or two, if this thing is still moving backwards, then you have to accept reality. You can't be afraid of the past returning. If we keep losing, we'll have already returned. |

How are we going to know what was really going on? We know that he isn't leaving, but what else? I'm just particularly confused over the outrage with this situation, because I never saw any report saying he was definitely leaving. So how were we lied to? To me, all this scuttlebutt is normal for a coach like Payton after a couple bad seasons. There's going to be talk. If it were Mike Smith, no one would care because he's not a hot name. |
Re: Sean Stays
I think Sean proved most of us wrong by playing Brees the last two games and getting two W's without getting Brees hurt. He finished well so you've got to give him credit and he seemed to have that light back in his eyes at the end of the press conference.
I know I was singing a different tune in the middle of the season and after the Redskins loss, but I think we may have made a good choice here; hopefully some of the rough patches are behind us. |

You think it would make no sense? In reading your posts, one might think he's a god to you. So if he's all that, why do you think he couldn't do better? Obviously he wanted to stay here, regardless of whether or not he explored other options, he ultimately decided to stay. But if he had wanted to go, why couldn't he get more? There are some hungry organizations out there, and if they think as highly of him as you do, then why wouldn't they do whatever they could to reel him in, if he wanted out? Chip freaking Kelly had more power than Sean. He just doesn't know how to handle grown men. Why couldn't Sean get more power? It's all a moot point now, because he stayed. But don't take that to mean he's married to us. You don't know what goes into his decision making more than anyone else, so please spare the insinuation that you do. |

Re: Sean Stays
Take away the Super Bowl and Payton is still the best coach this team has ever had. Mora couldn't even win a playoff game let alone get us in more than 1. Payton has as many wins in less games.

Re: Sean Stays
First of all, I doubt Payton wanted to leave and second I don't think the Saints even entertained the thought of letting him leave. Here are the NFL rules in plain English on coaches. While under contract there can't be any contact with another team. http://prostarcoaching.net/library/N...tact_Rules.pdf
This was all for splash from half ass so called reporters. |

And then there are reports that actually claim there are negotiations going on. But no one is saying it's a done deal. That's why I'm not all worked up about it. It's just an overreaction by the media, but not anything I deem as malicious. |
Re: Sean Stays
Terrible news. They should have cut Payton loose. I'm no NFL head coach but when I see the players line up in formation it's so obvious what the saints are gonna do. Payton's play calling caught the world by surprise in 2009 but now he is so transparent. If Brees would give back his money so we can really buy some decent players we would be in good shape. I would take coughlin in Nola easily.
