He has put together some fine O's, it's the D he lets take the field that scares the hell out of me.

I'm really surprised you listed Fairley, he'll be suspended for dope by Week 4... |

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
From the sampling we've got a Coleman, especially his porous catching, I wouldn't bank on him...
We do need another big red zone, third down target as Colston's age has caught up with him; until that person is on the roster, Colston's cap number is really not that bad... Now, it'd be nice to restructure Colston for two more years, 2016 and 2017, that way you've got a leader in the corps to keep the young guns on track... Problem is that there really is no quality free agent top of the depth chart wide receiver available, that's why I think we're spending one of our higher draft picks on a wide receiver... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Even if there were big-name starting WR's available we wouldn't be signing any of them. I've been beating this drum for a long time: we DON'T sign those free agent WR's. We draft or develop undrafted FA's.

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
At some point Payton's got to do something different. With more NFL ready receivers in college, it's not as easy to get undrafted FA receivers. I do not think Treadwell will be available when we pick. And I don't want Boldin, he's older now just like Colston and we don't need to copy what Indy did getting Johnson, which blew up in their face.
Defenses did not respect our run game because they knew from all the press that saints were gonna run more. They focused on stopping the running game, and forced Brees to beat them. They even saw how the passing game looked in certain games and stacked the box on every first down. There is one thing I am curious about and I will start it in another thread. |

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Just read a list on cheaper free agents. Might be worth a look
Ian Williams, DT, San Francisco 49ers Ian Williams, DT, San Francisco 49ers San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ian Williams became a 16-game starter for the first time in his five-year NFL career this past season, and he certainly made the most of his opportunity. The Notre Dame product racked up 65 tackles, 1.0 sacks, one pass defended and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus rated him ninth overall among all defensive tackles for the season. At 6'1" and 305 pounds, Williams possesses the heavy, compact frame that teams traditionally look for in an anchor nose tackle. His play in 2015 proved that Williams has the skills to excel as a regular starter. However, he isn't likely to command the attention given to other pending free agents at the position. Other defensive tackles scheduled to hit the open market include the Detroit Lions' Haloti Ngata, the St. Louis Rams' Nick Fairley, Terrance Knighton of the Washington Redskins and the Green Bay Packers' B.J. Raji. Williams will rightfully deserve some sort of raise in his next contract, as his 2015 base salary was a mere $1 million. However, the one-time undrafted free agent has worked his way up the NFL ranks, is just 26 years old and could potentially anchor a defensive front for several more years. He ultimately should prove to be a bargain. |
"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

It'd be an interesting comparison of Damon Harrison vs Ian Williams; still think Harrison is the great unsung hero on that Jets gang green defensive line and would be awesome in black and gold... |
