Payton has already said that was the one that got away. Said he regretted not giving him more time.

So who is our DC.?? I see 2 Senior Defensive Assistants. Is this like a new name for DC'? I really didn't like the last marriage we had with Ryan and Allen

Aaron Glenn as DB coach is the one I am impressed with the most so far followed by Dan Campbell.

Having Joe Lombardi back must make SP happy

I know. Is this the creativeness that is Coach Payton run amuck or what?!? Sort of a double-double reverse? Guess our resident jedi master will inform us all in good time...

That was a tough one. laundry list of injuries and the success for some of those injuries were not the greatest back then. past few years it seems rebuilding a person has gotten a whole lot better.

Rob we messed up on but it was a 70/30? that he would bounce back. just guessing. move did not look risky at all back then. it actually made sense for the most part. but no one under estimated the player he was. the question was could he return and what would his longevity be.

rolled the dice and crapped out

Can't help but think the Giunta hiring as a Senior Defensive Assistant is to teach, instruct assistants on staff how Coach Payton wants things done...

Giunta is an older guy with alot of experience, but the results in his last two stints were less than overwhelming, despite injuries...

+1. If I remember correctly, Aaron was a really good scrappy cover corner for his size, and a straight-up ball hawk, intercepting over 40 passes in his career. I'm looking forward to see what he can do with our young DB's (Breaux, Swann, and Williams). If PJ Williams develops like he should, then we are looking really really sweet at corner for the future.

Swann is a big question mark (concussion history).

Chip Kelly fires Eric Mangini as 49ers defensive coordinator | ProFootballTalk

Upgrade at defensive line coach? Senior Defensive Assistant, Pass Rush?

He's a Parcell's guy, New York Jets (1996–1999) and worked in the same coaching tree under Bill Belichick, New England Patriots (2000–2005)...

Big question about him is "can he be trusted?" and "would what he'd bring to the table?"...

Eric Mangini regrets turning in the Patriots over Spygate | ProFootballTalk

Could be a candidate who could check Payton on defense...
