Let see 7 - 9? feels good? lets see

Defense while not a dominate down the stretch did come in and change things up in the second half of each and every game after Rob was canned. DA did enough in game adjustments to give us a shot a winning.

hell yeah 7 - 9 in 2015 feels better. No Rob

For sum reason I feel better with 7-9 this year with the young guys we have on defense I'm excited to see what they do next season... If we could get another draft like 2015 that would be great !

its all about attitude and effort, 2014 had neither while this year's team at least fought until the end of the season minus a couple weak links that I hope are gone by next season. This year was all about fixing all the problems from 2014 and changing the culture again, so I can live with 7-9 under those circumstances. Now with this young group of players and another great draft, look out for this team in 2016 and beyond

Re: Why 7-9 in 2015 feels a lot better than 7-9 in 2014 for Saints

Keep in mind this team started out the season with an incident of "as many as 10 Saints players" in the club at 4 AM and a star player traded away, for essentially fighting and whipping a woman with a belt at a ridiculous beach party straight out of an episode of HBO's "Ballers." So I was not really expecting them to go anywhere this year except, out to the club at 4 AM....

Maybe I am still just a little high on "the speech" from the other day, but I feel like towards the end of this year the light bulb really went ON, over Sean Payton's head, and I think he GETS IT now. Whereas before he was kind of aloof, or trying to mask things, or hiding the flaws or denying them, or pretending things weren't all that bad. In real time they were of course making small changes to the team every year since '06, but I think this year, or post- Jeff Ireland, Payton has really gotten on board with what is wrong with this team and now he clearly wants to stick around and fix it. And he knows it's got to be something NEW, not the same-old same-old, keeping-the-band-together type thing.

NOW it really feels like the reboot or the Sean Payton 2.0 that we all were craving and wanting, is happening. IF he can get a handle on the clubbing and team partying at 4 AM, and get a good crop of new young players in here, this team will be better than 7-9 next year, you can bank on it.

If you think about it, this whole team could have really cratered and given up after the Eagles game, it was looking that bad....they could have just as easily given up and quit on the season after the Texans game, which also looked bad...as in really quit, lay down, and pack it in....but in both cases they bounced back, or at least kept fighting the good fight...

if is this truly Payton V 2.0, then I want to see that killer instinct and creative play calling he did before 2012 back. IMO the offense has gotten way to passive and predictable since his return and I don't think I've seen him lay into a player on the sideline in a long time too

In 2014 we were a beaten team. In 2015 we fought the good fight. That is the difference in this team. The glass is 3/4 full.

I feel a little more optimistic than last year, due to various things. Ireland's on board and going to have a bigger role. Last year's draft was pretty solid for once.

Also, I think since we had some real bad losses this year (Washington, Houston) where we seemed to hit rock bottom and I think to an extent Payton was on the hot seat. We won the last few, and Payton seemed to have that twinkle back in his eye once it was revealed he would be back. He seemed grateful for another chance and less beat down. It could be smoke and mirrors, but hope the old Payton is back. And I'm hoping we learned from the mistake of not having a defensive identity as to what freaking defense (3-4, 4-3, man or zone) we would run. Some of that was Rob Ryan, but certainly can't repeat that mistake again.

"you are what your record says you are..."

7-9 is 7-9 it is the same result. We have the same team.

I feel better about the team now then I did a few months ago. I think the Saints finished the season strong and played hard. I liked what I saw. I'm excited for next season.
