this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If we used him to his skills(even declining skills) he would be adequate. But we would be better off if he didn't receive many snaps....

Re: What if Browner stays?
The guy didn't get bad overnight. He was a square peg in a round hole from day one. Under both Ryan and Allen we had this guy in many man coverage situations he had no business being in. Hell against Carolina we put him man on Ted Ginn. He couldn't stay with Ginn if he was allowed to drive his car. He is a short field zone guy and nothing more. Have him jam off the line and then shed into short zones and that is all his good for. And that's how Belichik and Carroll used him. If we do the same maybe he isn't the disaster he is. But we used him like he's a typical corner and he isn't. But after his display of maturity and comments we need to cut bait on him regardless of financial impact. He is bad for this team.

He would be useless in a zone as he doesn't have the quickness he once had, if ever... But you make an excellent point that both Ryan and Allen seem to lack the ability to properly assess their personnel and put them in the best position to succeed, matching Payton's skill at doing the same on offense... |

If he does stay they have to move him to safety. He can't cover wideouts.

Re: What if Browner stays?
He is not going anywhere. Cap hit is too big. I say move him to Safety and let him fight for a spot there. He is to slow to be a CB. If he can not beat out a UDFA or a cheap backup (under 500K) then send him packing. I would rather have him ride the pine as a back up than eat that cap hit.

Re: What if Browner stays?
He's a physical press CB. That is a completely different skillset than safety.
He'd be a horrible safety, absolutely horrible. |
