Wouldn't surprise me. Too many concussions. The more you get the worse it is. Austin Collie's career was cut short for the same reason.

New Orleans Saints snap counts: Five healthy players sit vs. Steelers
By Josh Katzenstein, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on August 27, 2016 at 4:11 PM, updated August 27, 2016 at 4:13 PM NFL teams typically use the third preseason game as a final tune-up for players who will actually contribute when the regular season begins in two weeks. For any guy on the roster bubble, seeing action in the third exhibition can be a good sign. For other players, not entering the game can signal that coaches and scouts have already finished evaluations, for better or worse. Five healthy players on the back end of the roster sat out Friday night's exhibition loss — wide receivers Reggie Bell and Jared Dangerfield, cornerback Brandon Dixon, long snapper Chris Highland and fullback Sione Houma. With the Saints need to cut the roster from 89 to 75 by Tuesday at 4 p.m., that could be bad news for those guys. There's a chance the Saints are trying to hide some of these players so they can sneak them onto the practice squad, which would happen after the cut to 53 players next Saturday at 4 p.m. In addition to the players who sat out completely, eight non-specialists played exclusively on special teams — cornerbacks Brandon Dixon and Jimmy Pruitt; linebackers Jeff Schoettmer, Dillon Lee and Tony Steward; tight end RaShaun Allen and safeties Trae Elston and Jamal Golden. Pruitt left late in the game with an injury. Some of these players will have another chance to impress next week in the final preseason game, one in which many starters will sit, but others could soon be looking for a new team. Here are a few other notable items from the snap-count report: -A few players made their first preseason appearance this year after overcoming injuries. Defensive tackle John Jenkins played 12 snaps, fullback Austin Johnson played 13 and rookie tight end Garrett Griffin played 22. -Running backs Tim Hightower (18 snaps) and Marcus Murphy (12) each played on offense this week after playing exclusively on special teams last week. Murphy suffered a concussion late in the fourth quarter. -It's clear the Saints still don't know what their rotation at defensive end will look like behind Cameron Jordan and Kasim Edebali. Darryl Tapp (23) and Obum Gwacham (26) were the first backups off the bench, but a few others had ample opportunity. Davis Tull played 22 snaps, Bobby Richardson played 20 and Matt Shaughnessy played 17. -Rookie Vonn Bell led the reserve safeties with 29 snaps. Roman Harper played 17 snaps, and Erik Harris had 12. Re: 2016 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Agreed. If anything, I can see the Saints keeping six (6) CBs (Breaux, Williams, Harris, Finnegan, Crawley and Dixon)...
Swann looks like he took his cues from Westbank and that's not good for an unknown, second year who's had occaisional flashes... Wouldn't be surprised if the Saints tried to salvage a seventh round conditional pick by trading him to a team that needs DB help... |
