State, Saints sit down to talk more about team's future
Not much new in the article, just stating that they met again for tea and strumpets:
State, Saints sit down to talk more about team's future Capitol news bureau State officials met with the Saints football team representatives for three hours Friday as part of an ongoing effort to reach a long-term agreement to keep the NFL franchise in Louisiana. The meeting at the New Orleans Saints' administrative offices in Metairie marked the fourth time the state and the team have sat down this year. Neither side would comment on how the talks are progressing. Bill Curl of the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District said Gov. Kathleen Blanco and Saints owner Tom Benson weren't present for the talks. The state and the Saints agree that renovating the Superdome is more feasible than building a new stadium at this point. What's disputed is who should pay for the renovation and whether the state should continue giving the Saints annual cash subsidies. Blanco wants to move the team away from fixed guarantees from the state by turning a renovation of the Superdome into a revenue generator. She said earlier in the week that she will ask the Legislature to pass a New Orleans-based tax in the session that begins April 25. The Saints can decide whether they want to spend the $12 million expected to be generated through the tax on subsidies or a Dome facelift, she said. |
