Re: Jahri Evans released

cap savings
Jahri Evans
2016 $3,100,000
2017 $6,000,000

David Hawthorne
2016 $2,250,000

Ramon Humber
2016 $901,000

Seantavius Jones
2016 $600,000

about 6.8 mill cap savings

Lets see what we got
Tim Lelito
Mike McGlynn
Senio Kelemete

Let me look at this in a different way
Senio Kelemete
Mike McGlynn
Tim Lelito

Nope still do not see two quality starters at the nfl level, especially in our division. Biggest issue we before the off season was a need at OG and thats before Evens was cut. Litto to date is not the answer. He still has not figured out how to work in the phone booth at the pro level. Stunts still eat this kid alive. His reaction time is average at best. We need some divine inspiration for him because so far coaching has not worked.

If this is what the saints are actually thinking that two starters or even one starter can be had from these three. then plug a hole or holes in the draft they are nuts. oG are not the greatest this year as far as step in and start from day one.

Trade Drew to Houston now. Pick 22 a second and do not get Drew killed

Re: Jahri Evans released

Even JJ Watt made fun of him.
I don't know how you missed it but that happened to most of OTs that Watt faced, it is kinda his thing you know.
Strief was an above average RT this year and the main reason people give him crap is because they don't what the heck they are talking about. Did he have bad plays? Sure but you don't expect any other player to be perfect every play. Most of the problems on the right side happened when Kelemete played RG and got beaten like a drum. You also had plays when the DE was the TEs responsibility on the right side and Brees got sacked, but hey, right side so it just has to be Striefs fault right?

I believe he will get beat out by Peat if Peat works his butt off this offseason but I really hope we'll keep him around because it would provide great depth.

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

Re: Jahri Evans released

This is a start. 7 million in savings gives us 2 solid starters. Resign Tim Lelito and Senio Kelemete and let them fight it out for RG. Then, sign JR Sweezy to play left guard. You could get all 3 guards for under the 7 million.

*Edit* Nevermind, just saw after the releasing of these 3 we only have $1,838,494 in cap room.

Re: Jahri Evans released

Ellerbe (5.9 million freed up) and Colston (3.2 million freed up) should be gone next. Morestead (3.25 million) may also be a cap casuality.

At least we have that.

Unless you are gonna start punting for the Saints, Morstead isn't going anywhere.

This is a very good year for punters and kickers in the draft so taking recent injuries into account it is very possible.

Then again looking at the OG situation as it stands booming punts may be more important than ever.

A punter has never been worth 4.6 million a year. Crap, give me a solid UFA for 1 million and save me the 2.2 million. We are hurting to bad to spend 4.6 million on a punter. Not sure if your Morstead or just trolling.

Really wish we had signed Cincinnati's LG Chris Boling last season instead of Brandon Browner...

We would have had a real, special offensive line going into this past (2015) season...

Re: Jahri Evans released

Folks,

Take off the fan hat and put on your GM hat for a second ... the savings it would reap wouldn't even pay for a below average tackle, or a serviceable starter. Even as a backup, there is value in Strief.

I'd be very surprised if he is cut.
