Josh Gordon

Top three talent at WR with repeated drug abuse suspensions.IMHO I would take a risk on a potential superstar provided a contract with ironclad safeguards and no guaranteed money. Hire the best rehabilitation specialist and help this talented and troubled young man fulfill his potential. Win WIn.. The pick should.be conditional on his continued sobriety.

If we could sign him to a one year prove it with no dead money I'd be up for it.

However I don't see Payton wanting him after all the trouble he's had.

Prove it deal. 1 year 850k.

Re: Josh Gordon

Amazing talent, but just can't make the good choices. I was impressed with Honey Badger turning it around, but I think he's in the minority. Gordon just doesn't seem to have that same desire to actually want to play. It'd be a waste of time, paper and money for this guy.

Talk about a huge waste in talent. Fact is, wether you agree with why he was supended or not, he had multiple chances and opportunities to do the right thing and follow the rules. He chose marijuana over a lucrative career.

Regardless, I just don't see him in the black and gold. Payton has trust issues anyway. He's not going to even consider someone that has to be babysat that much off the field.

If he does't have the brains to understand that his BS is costing millions, he likely doesn't have the brains to understand Payton's offense.

If you wonder if Payton has a low tolerance for this BS, ask Joe Morgan.

At least he can afford the good stuff. :smokin:

I don't see a move like this.

We seem to find able bodies to fit our system. We make hero's out of zero's. lol.

Oline - D is all I really care to see as far as moves go.

The talent level I all you could ever hope for. I wonder if a change of scenery would help him get his act together.

How would he affect the locker room.

Like it's been said, I don't think Payton would even give him a chance to prove himself.

Joe Morgan showed glimpses of becoming a great player with some incredible catches, a DUI and lateness to team meeting and he gets released.

But still Morgan doesn't have a tenth of the talent of Gordon.

You're only gonna see this happen on Madden. It doesn't fit Payton's MO at all.

Very true, but we didn't draft Marcus Peters because Payton was concerned about his off-field issues, then he goes and leads the league in interceptions as a rookie.

Man you guys are some hard cases. Plenty of people have turned there lives around Cris Carter is the poster boy for NFL drug problem turnarounds . Josh Gordon maybe more talented than Carter a hall of famer. This guy led the league playing in Clevland. Everyone knows they haven't had a Qb since Bernie Kosar. Drew would make this guy top three. Sometimes you have to dare greatly to be great. A conditional draft pick and a contract structure that gives the team an out if he is suspended is a no brainer. This kind of talent doesn't come around often.
A wr corps of Snead ,Cooks, Gordon and Coleman , man I want to see that. Loomis make it happen!

I agree. A talent like that doesn't come around very ofton. Fix the O-line, draft a TE and add Gordaon ,it's 2011 fire power. Still our D though???

the KC pass rush helped him do that, he's a great talent but the KC defensive front made a lot of QBs hurry passes and make bad throws which is why I want the Saints to use the 12th pick this year and their 1st rounder next year on defensive lineman that specialize in rushing the passer.

We're not that desperate at wr. What kinda message will that send to our young wr? Risk is not worth the reward due to how drew like to spread the ball.

Re: Josh Gordon

You know, I'm all about having good character guys but sometimes you really need take a risk or two. I'm not saying we NEED Josh Gordon, but if he became available you aren't ever going to get a better player for a cheaper price. Who does it hurt if it doesn't work? Him. So why not?

But as others have said, it simply won't happen. Not unless Sean has some great revelation in a dream to change his mind. That irritates me a little bit. Because it's not just about Gordon, it's all the players in the past that we've missed on because of Payton's character crusade. I'm sorry, but while a strong locker room is important, let's not pretend that the NFL is the league of (actual) saints. If you're worried that one or two guys are going to infect the whole team, then maybe your whole team lacks the character you think it has.

We watched Brandon Browner act like a fool, and play horribly all year, yet they kept trotting him out there. That's where Payton lost some credibility with me. They badly misjudged him, and didn't want to admit the mistake.

Can't affect the locker room if he's not in it. How does it affect the team if we get this guy with the golden hands and he's soon suspended for using them to keep rolling his spleefs?

Or was it that a good CB kept the QB from having open targets and thus game the pass-rush more time to arrive? That stuff always goes two ways.

That's one of the reasons I want us to have more weapons. Weapons will beat defenses a couple big plays a game and we're asking for our spread the ball around time consuming drive offense to compete with quick strike offenses. Atlanta though isn't the problem if they get Gordon. Carolina and TB on the other hand are.
