Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
I'm interested in beer, doesn't mean I'm buying the Miller Brewing Company!
|
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
I'd like the team to talk to Long and Cook too

Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
I suppose if we ran a 3-4 defense, he could fit as the other inside linebacker. Not exactly the same thing as being the MLB in a 4-3, but I guess maybe you could make it work, in theory. But if he can't cover anyone, it would seem that the money it would take to sign him could be more wisely invested elsewhere.
That's a long way of saying I don't like the idea. He's still plenty productive against the run and makes a lot of tackles. But he isn't really a difference maker beyond that. He would be good as depth. I don't see him taking that sort of deal. |
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
Solid vet. Will never be spectacular. But, he's better than every other LB on the Saints roster except Anthony. You can win with solid. You can't win with putrid.
|
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
Don't want him. Rather have Whitehead from Detroit. He's good against the run, good in coverage, younger and probably cheaper.
|
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
I very badly wanted us to draft Animal Jr., so I'm very excited to see he's coming in for a visit. I think this is a big deal.

A change of scenery does wonders

Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
Would he back up Anthony or take Ellerbe' spot?

Doesn't he play Anthony's spot?

If we start moving Anthony around to make room for Laurinitus then when it fails the whole "square peg round hole" debate will start all over again and we'll all ask why we made an MLB move to OLB. |

I sure do love me some LB's that can't cover... Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm. [/sarcasm]

Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
It's just a visit but I don't know if we'd waste our time just to kick the tires. I know we bring guys in for workouts all the time but this feels a little different than just keeping our list updated. |
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
On paper he just doesn't look like a good fit for our defense. His main problem is coverage if i'm not mistaken.
Good leader though. Sounds like another Curtis Lofton type move to me. Not bad... but not great. |
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
Like I said a lot of experience and a good veteran in the locker room!

Really interested to know what the team's vision is. |
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
Better players:
DeMeco Ryans Danny Trevathan Keenan Robinson Brandon Marshall |
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
Why even bring in a declining player coming off a bad season thinking he'll produce on an anemic defense? We lack team speed & Laurinitis has been poor in coverage.
You'd think the front office would try something different by now. |
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
Perhaps, Saints FO are thinking of moving Anthony out of the middle?!?
Or are moving to the 3-4 base front?!? Either way, is Laurinaitis even physically capable of making an impact? |

James 2015 Season Stats
COMP TOTAL AST SACK FF 109 61 48 1.0 1 James was cut to save money not from decline on the field, Long was the one cut because he cost to much and couldn't stay healthy the last 2 years |
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
By the word "leader", we're talking about someone who can suit up and basically do Vitt's job right? I watched when he was in college, but lost track of him when he went to play in pro football purgatory. What's his football IQ?
|
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
I have a bad feeling the team is going to try moving Anthony to the strong side with Laurinaitis at MLB. I just don't see Laurinaitis playing the strong side or accepting a backup role.

|
Re: Saints interested in LB James Laurinaitis
saw that he was one of the lowest ranked defensive players last season, if they aren't going to a true 3-4 then I don't like the idea of this signing at all
