I once read a comment from Brees where he stated that Colston could read a defense better than most QB's. It seemed that he and Brees were always on the same page. The rare combination of size, hands and intellect meshed with Payton's high IQ offense and made Colston great.

Gonna miss him.

That explains how Colston excelled so well in finding holes in the zone.

Well, Hofstra University isn't a slouch of a school...

A while back it was Joe Horn, now Colston ... big shoes to fill again at WR1.

Knowing how loved and respected Colston is by the Saints and fans, is there a chance the failclowns would try to sign Colston to rub it in our face?

It was bad enough that Hebert, Anderson & Horn played for them! It would break my heart if Colston went there!

I guess it would depend on if Colston still wants to play.

There are some reports coming out of workouts and all that he lacks speed. Honestly, we have speed already on our team. His name is Cooks and so far speedy receivers have done squat for us other than him(cough TJ or TG cough). Physical toughness, which is what he possesses, is what we need.

That said he may be the only legit receiver in this class so he will not fall to us.

I wouldn't worry about missing out on a WR in the first round. There are plenty of good WRs that can be found in later rounds. Colston, Graham, Stills proved that one

He's going out quietly too. Thanks for the memories.

According to the Score editors this is a bad wr class.

Wide Receivers in the NFL need to be able to catch the ball - consistently...

that ability is starting to become a lost art in the NFL...

This is not a deep class and everything I'm reading projects this as the worst class in the modern, contemporary era...

Having a combination of Treadwell, Cooks, Snead and Coleman all entering their prime will certainly help the transition.

But after that I'd love to see all defense, with maybe an OG or TE squeezed in there somehow.

Having that many weapons could extend Brees career a year or two. As his accuracy and arm deminish these guys have the ability to make the tough catches. I am totally on board with your assesment. Treadwell at 1 then defense, then guard and TE. I think we can find a guard in FA. He wont have to acclimate to the speed of the NFL and can step right in to protect Drew. Even great guards have trouble acclimating to the NFL as rookies. Offensive line is a position group where experience is almost as important as talent. Almost.
