Re: What exactly is the logic behind drafting Treadwell?
Either way, we need a WR badly. This is a bad draft for WR's.
We can't enter the season with our top 3 WR being Cooks, Snead and Coleman. |
Re: What exactly is the logic behind drafting Treadwell?
CB Hargreaves
DE Dodd OG Turner OLB Jenkins DT Ridgeway WR Sharpe. |

Re: What exactly is the logic behind drafting Treadwell?
WR draft is not as stellar as the past few but there are some solid prospects to be had on each day.
short list Laquon Treadwell Ole Miss WR Josh Doctson, WR TCU Tyler Boyd WR Pittsburgh Micheal Thomas WR Ohio state Trevor Davis, WR California Tajae Sharpe, WR, UMass Cody Core WR Mississippi Mike Thomas, WR, S. Miss Mekale McKay WR Cicinatti Dual threats RB/WR types Ezekiel Elliott RB Ohio state C.J. Prosise RB/WR Notre Dame D.J. Foster RB/WR Arizona State Now this is a very thin year for TE with blocking skills just case we face JJ Watt Nick Vannett TE Ohio State So early or late or even FA there is a way to help Drew out |
Re: What exactly is the logic behind drafting Treadwell?
There will be unpolished gems available in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds or later. A guy like Cody Core at Ole Miss does not get a lot of attention because he was surrounded by people like Treadwell and Engram, but he will emerge as a solid NFL WR.

Are we going to spend 1st round pick on a QB because of that possibility? I also want to spend a minute countering the argument that we cannot go into the season with Cooks, Snead, and Cooks as our top three receivers. Last year Cooks and Snead combined for nearly 2000 yards and 9 TDs. These are respectable numbers. Coleman contributed nearly another 500 yards and another 2 TDs. I admit the open question is whether or not Coleman can pick up the slack left by Colston last year (45 catches, 520 yards, 4 TD).. But if those numbers are distributed between the receivers and the TE position (Watson's career 69 catches, 984 yards, and 3 TDs) Then there's no reason to think that the Saints traditional passing game isn't going to be productive. Finally let us not forget that the most prolific and productive receivers the Saints has ever had was a 7th round pick 10 years ago. Also the Saints spent a #1 pick at WR just two years ago. The only offensive position the Saints should consider spending a high draft pick on is guard. And even the highest rated guards in this draft have mid-2nd to 3rd round grades. SFIAH |

Dominate the line of scrimmage, dominate the game.
I'm sure you will be able to get very good "value" wide receivers and RB's in the second and third rounds of the draft. Billings, A Robinson or Butler will be the Saints pick @ #12 :p. Book it. |
Re: What exactly is the logic behind drafting Treadwell?
We were 8th in scoring. If we were 3rd or 4th we'd have won the division. We've sucked at defense since the last century but we were a great team for about five years because we had the best offense in the league.
I'm not saying to totally give up on the D but not at the expense of the offense. That's just who Sean Payton is. Give him some toys and then sit back and enjoy the show. All this defense needs is to be not awful. A competent DC would give us that. |
