Saints sign LB Nate Stupar
 

The New Orleans Saints have signed reserve linebacker Nate Stupar to a three-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Stupar, 28, has played the last two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

He was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft but was waived at the of training camp. He then had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Falcons claimed him off waivers just before the start of the 2014 season. In two seasons, he played 31 games for the Falcons, starting three.

Stupar played in 257 defensive snaps and 63 special teams snaps in 2015, according to Pro Football Reference.

I guess we'll wait and see what the details of the contract are, but the 3 years is curious to me. Even if it's dirt cheap I still can't help but wonder what it is they like so much about him. Maybe we get a pleasant surprise on this one. I don't expect it at all of course.

That's enough to make me smile. From what I've read he's a substantial upgrade from Humber and should provide good depth.

We desperately need back ups.

This is a great special teams addition and if anyone didn't notice we had a big problem there last year! Great Depth. If you have depth that means you can plug and play your players and they will not get as worn out as the games progresses giving you a real upper hand as the game wears on.

hes a special guy, hes an overachiever; hes a 7th rounder, he will be special teams leader, its what breeds championships, leadership barfs accountability, everyone must do there job.

Looks like pretty good speed on that fumble return, should serve us well running down the field on ST. Also just looking at his stats I like how they are improving from year to year.

Details on LB Nate Stupar's deal with the Saints: 3 years, $5 million, with another $900,000 in possible incentives. Includes $1.2 million signing bonus and a $675,000 base salary in 2016. His 2016 cap number will be $1.075 million.
