Saints sign LB Nate Stupar

The New Orleans Saints have signed reserve linebacker Nate Stupar to a three-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Stupar, 28, has played the last two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

He was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft but was waived at the of training camp. He then had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Falcons claimed him off waivers just before the start of the 2014 season. In two seasons, he played 31 games for the Falcons, starting three.

Stupar played in 257 defensive snaps and 63 special teams snaps in 2015, according to Pro Football Reference.

Here's our replacement for Ramon Humber. Plays special teams and capable of filling in at all three LB positions.

I guess we'll wait and see what the details of the contract are, but the 3 years is curious to me. Even if it's dirt cheap I still can't help but wonder what it is they like so much about him. Maybe we get a pleasant surprise on this one. I don't expect it at all of course.
