I wouldn't rule out the Saints FO drafting a LB in the 1st 3 rounds.

We desperately need a LB who can consistently cover TE's.

We should seriously consider drafting guys like Deone Bucannon. In todays NFL faster undersized LBs (safeties turned LBs) are not rare breed. Give those guys solid D-line and watch them dominate the game. This draft class has some intriguing players (Jack, Jones, Lee...)

Given the injury, Jack might be there at 12

I don't see how Miles gets past pick #7. Athletic, hits HARD, dynamic and elite coverage ability. In this pass happy league, he is gone early. We could be looking at the Von Miller 2.0 in a few years.

Damn, if he is there at #12 take him :bng:.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis

I want to know how much he costs us, what defense we will be running. If this was RR last year I would like the pickup. But now that DA is running the defense, we are running a 4-3, not a 3-4. Plus, Kikaha is made for the 3-4 along with Davis Tull who we redshirted last year. If we had a track record of drafting sure fire defensive players I wouldn't be worried but outside of Cam, Stephone, Kikaha and Viccaro, we haven't really hit on defensive players recently. Coach needs to make sure we have the right pieces to make this thing work. Coach Payton you said you're in this for the long haul, time to prove it.

Anthony playing OLB makes sense as he is good in coverage.
You could also see James as the Sam, lot of options in the 43 with these LBs.

34 makes no sense as you'll have James playing out of position along with Ellerbe being an outcast in that system.

The only thing I know for sure is Allen has always run the 43 and went completely away from 34 looks when he got the promotion here. It would be odd to see him go back.

All that said, I like the signing. Vet leadership was needed and I think he'll be sparked to play better than ever being that his team just cut him (think Jenkins and Harper comeback).

Let's not get ahead of ourselves about what he will play because people did this last offseason and it wasn't what they expected.

I don't think he gets out the top 10 but you never know some teams might be scared of his medical and pass on him

Good signing if we play the right scheme. It's going to be mute if we don't get pressure up front.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis

4-3 Ellerbe Laurinaitis Anthony
3-4 Ellerbe Laurinaitis Anthony Kikaha

Btw they signed James to a 3 year deal, amount not available yet

Still think moving Anthony around to get Laurinitus on the field is a big mistake.

Anthony's the first linebacker in years to even get an interception for us and he really started making strides.

He should be starting at MLB and learn on the job.

PFF Lowest graded defensive players
• Brandon Browner (-41.1)
• Bobby Richardson (-16.2)
• Stephone Anthony (-14.3)
I think we may have thrown too much at Anthony too fast. A veteran signal caller on defense may help his development. Its obvious he has the skills to be a stud LB in this league. Perhaps he still has a lot to learn before he becomes the man.

Even Sam Mills got to learn in the USFL...

It'd probably kill big money college football, but the NFL could use a minor league system, and not named the CFL...

The NFL Europe could have been really good if it would have ben run the right way. But I would believe that the more viable option would be 8-10 smaller market teams in the US.

Most NFL players drafted early translate to the pros immediately. That's absurd, MLB players don't have that ability. If Anthony is not NFL ready yet then it just goes to show that leadership does not matter. After all, he was drafted because he was a leader at Clemson? No we can put the blame on our conditioning program and the lack of DT and DE as we all have been talking about here.

Laurinatis better be able to play at a high level or else it's a wasted pick.

The uncertainty on defense is why I want the offense perfectly back together.

Based on an injury plagued 2015 I can't disagree. If he returns to his pre 2015 form I'd give it an A.

Feast or famine signing?

If it is for 3 years then it is a risky move and has a good chance of turning into a D signing.

Regardless, I like the signing and was all for it when he was released by the Rams.

I would have preferred Craig Robertson over Laurinitus .

Sure hope Ireland has Su'a Cravens, Darren Lee & Deion Jones on his short list of candidates for the upcoming draft. We need another fast LB who can cover.

It seems we need three positions on defense as well as oline. I keep hearing the secondary was not playing well because of no pass rush. We're not going to be complete on defense next year so something will have to be sacrificed.

As was said above, we need a fast LB that can cover. Since it looks like they're not going to sign one I hope to God they draft one. Ellerbe is good but the guy is made of paper mache.

I remember Laurinitis had 18 tackles vs LSU one year. On our LB core he will help. Definetely. Good signing.
