Saints sign James Laurinaitis
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran linebacker James Laurinaitis.
Laurinaitis confirmed the news on Twitter late Wednesday. The NFL Network first reported the signing. It was the second linebacker added by the Saints in the same day. Earlier the team announced the signing of linebacker Nate Stupar. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...203-mmmain.jpg We doubled up on LB's today. read more |

Very nice, how much?
Sincerely, Borat |
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
take that:
Rand Getlin of NFL Media reports that the Saints have agreed to terms with former Rams LB James Laurinaitis. Laurinaitis previously visited with the Saints and Falcons, which appeared to be the two teams he was considering the most. |

Hm..

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
Can't say nothing until I see contract details. Hope we didn't overpay.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
Seems like we are going for depth and rotational players. IDK if he can start all 3 downs because he is horrible at the pass but he is a stud against the run.
|
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
I'm pretty darn sure he isn't accepting a backup role... So this is an interesting development.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
Like others said, good signing dependent on the cost and signing bonus.
|
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
This has got to mean we're going 3-4. Laurinaitis at Weakside LB in a 4-3? That's just another slow LB who can't pass cover like Hawthorne was.
|
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
is this guy really any good? I like all the LB signings while the dline still blows ass

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
Laurinaitis and Anthony on the inside in a 3-4?

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
He is going to play Mike in the 43. Anthony is going to the Will spot with Ellerbe as the Sam.
Anthony playing OLB makes sense as he is good in coverage. You could also see James as the Sam, lot of options in the 43 with these LBs. 34 makes no sense as you'll have James playing out of position along with Ellerbe being an outcast in that system. The only thing I know for sure is Allen has always run the 43 and went completely away from 34 looks when he got the promotion here. It would be odd to see him go back. All that said, I like the signing. Vet leadership was needed and I think he'll be sparked to play better than ever being that his team just cut him (think Jenkins and Harper comeback). |

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
According to this article, he's more of a liability against the run.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
An average player but a great locker room presence and a true veteran at linebacker. He knows the fundamentals for sure. I predicted this one and love it.

were there others out there? yep Production as a starter? low expectation so money is one thing and length of contract another Then I will judge. I am not jumping up and down over this Will we see Stephone Anthony deployed as an OLB once in while with this signing? |

Hmmm...let's see... Play for the Falcons, Atlanta, Big Media Center of the South, Crazy Night Clubs, Get all kind of Preseason Props from the Talking Heads in Bristol, Play for Owner Arthur Blank... or... Play for the Saints, New Orleans, Great Food, Mardi Gras, Perennial Underrated Team, The Super Dome, Great Fans, Sweep the Falcons with Coach Payton who actually owns the Falcons... Smart Man :bng: |
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
Ok, will see.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
He's a good player no doubt, I'm just a little confused because he plays the same spot as Stephone Anthony....
Why draft an MLB in the first round if your just going to sign a former all pro MLB the next season? I hope they don't try and move anthony, he really started making strides and I don't want this to turn into the whole "Martez Wilson Experiment" Where we made an MLB into a defensive end and then back to outside backer in 3 seasons. |
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
It seems like most people don't expect Laurinaitis to come here accepting a backup role. The early money appears to be on moving Anthony to Sam LB and letting Kikaha play DE full time.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
Any time you can get a good character guy with veteran experience it is not a bad thing. I hope the money is right, but that would be my only concern. This guy will demand effort from everyone else and I think he will be a solid player for a year for us.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
At one time hearing of this signing would have made me piddle down my leg, now although excited to a lesser degree, expectations are tempered. Will have to wait and see. If anything, the recent signings will do one thing, create a competitive atmosphere day in and day out. The older cats and the younger cats, it will be fun to watch
|
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
good signing I think again like said before locker room and field presence for accountability; as for the money its going to cost us is not relevant, all this cap this and cap that will be done with when 2017 rolls around.
|
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
I was really high on Laurinaitis coming out of college but its hard to tell what he has left in the tank. He is 29 and that is no real age so I hope he feels discareded and will be out to show everybody, kinda like when we got Vilma.

Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
Anthony showed me a lot last year but he struggled w/ discipline and command of the defense. Laurinaitis will come help the young fellow along and stabilize our defensive core. Great move to me
|
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
FYI... Laurinaitus played most of last year with a pretty bad elbow injury.
His run defense grades were the worst of his career. Lets hope he heals up and gets back to his pre-2015 form. If so, its a great signing. |

I just worry that Anthony might be less effective playing another position. You know we have a penchant for the square peg-round hole scenario. Actually, the theory that we can just move a player and make it work hasn't paid off that well. Cam Jordan has played well wherever we put him but he's the exception more than the rule. If we are going to draft someone to play a position then do it! |
Re: Saints sign James Laurinaitis
I don't trust any player with a last name that I have to google to learn how to spell. But we shall see...
