Also, consider that Greg Williams could also be tapped on the shoulder to spill the beans on Nick... That being said, if we do sign the guy we should still be looking to take a DT in the first few rounds of the draft.
This is what I was thinking when I talk about motivating Fairley. Two of Fairley's best seasons were under Williams and Jim Schwartz, both of whom are a little out there, but great motivators. If you got someone like this on your staff, it may work out. If not, it's a crapshoot with him, IMO.

Taking a DT in the first few rounds remains a sound decision, .

Yeah? Well, you know we don't. Our idea of having a motivating, "out there" type defensive coach is having them out there with another team...

, yeah, I know, I'm just trying to express an opinion in a non-trolling manner and still be somewhat optimistic in a situation that I honestly think has huge potential to be a "fail" ... but who knows? It might work out & if Fairley is going to be the force-to-reckon-with that I think he has yet to be, New Orleans is the second best team I'd like to see this happen at, .

I just hope the Saints don't pay him too much and I'd really like to know the inside scoop as to why the Rams are willing to let him walk. Could it be the 0.5 sack and 18 tackles in 15 games he recorded last season? IDK, he's averaged 2-3 sacks a year/16 tackles a season, but if you take away 2012 & 2013, he's been god-awful for a first round draft pick.

But, like Rez pointed out, he's a big improvement over what the Saints have right now and if Cam Jordan wants a DT, this could be his guy and just might create an environment Fairley will thrive in, #shrug. Combined with a couple of the LB signings and stuff, I'd be pretty happy as a Saints fan because it's starting to look like you just might have a defense to compliment an always potent offense, .

Like I said, I loved this guy coming out of college and hopefully whatever's kept him from reaching his full potential in the pros has been ironed out in DET/STL and he can be one of the top DL we all know he should be, .

Peter Gunta & Aaron Glenn (scrappy player back in the day) and of course Dennis Allen. We got rid of The Big Lebowski (Ryan) so things WILL improve.

More importantly we got a solid year of starting experience under their belts for Kikaha, Anthony and Breaux. Add the experience and intelligence of JLaurintus, possible acquire a solid interior DT (Fairley), then a STUD or two in the upcoming draft. Whew!!! Middle of the road D is all we need to make a push in the playoffs.

This team will be much improved on D ... or at least I think they will.

Trust and believe .

Not to mention, that Browner is gone... He was one of the major reasons the defense could never get off the field. 3rd and long and it was an automatic throw in his direction

Nope. He was definitely one of the reasons, but we had many larger reasons for that -players totally out of position, inability to tackle, poor schemes, no motivation, Vitt, wrong players in the rotation for the play, etc...
