Beg to differ. NOT extending him makes no sense. There is a dearth of quality QB's currently in the NFL and in the foreseeable future. QB is far and away the most vital part of any franchise hoping for any degree of success in today's game. Locking Brees up for several more years is a must for any chance at being competitive in the near future.
It also makes perfect sense financially as it will free up most probably $15 or more million in cap this season which can be used for more immediate moves or rolled forward (yes, this can be done) to increase the team's available cap for 2017.
In addition, by letting Brees play out his contract it would move ALL the leverage to Brees. Currently Brees has stated that he wants to retire as a Saint and is more than willing to restructure/extend.
I would be shocked if a deal has not already been hammered out between Brees and the Saints and the final details based upon what the Saints' cap needs entail are the only items remaining before becoming official.
Now THAT make perfect sense.

i agree. Without him our team would have been dead last the past few years. We give up over 20 points a game and Brees has gotten us some wins in spite of that. We cannot afford to have our offense slip one bit. Even if our defense does considerably better this year it wont matter if our offense takes a step back. They will just cancel each other out.
We need to ride the Brees train as long as we can.
