Alex Smith?
I do not like reading about the Saints trading up for Alex Smith. I am not an Aaron Brooks backer by any stretch but the Saints have a lot of holes. It they are to trade up wouldn't it make more sense to try to get Johnson from Texas or move up slightly to get Rolle from Miami. It seems everyone has a good understanding that the Saints need an OT, CB, SS, and at least one linebacker. Haslett and the Saints continue to ignore the back seven of the defense with their first pick every year and the results speak for themselves. I like Will Smith and I know the pick was precautionary against Darren Howard leaving but the Saints draft like a championship team just trying to plug a hole or two. This is clearly not the case. The Saints need at least four to five more above average players to get where they need to be. How far are the Saints away, I do not know but they need to fill holes. They do not have the luxury at this point to create competitions (Brooks-Smith) or add depth.
I have observed this site for over a year and believe that it has the most knowledgeable Saints fans I have found yet. I am glad to be a part of it. |

Welcome. Good insight. Just so you know, there is a full on Alex smith discussion in a thread further down that you may wanna read and jump into. Just so there isn\'t too much repetition about him. But welcome again and enjoy. Many characters here, but intelligent nonetheless.

Good call! The rumors have been flying about Brooks being a holdout next season and thus, all the hoopla on Smith.
Right now, we have an opportunity to improve the D through the draft and free agency. With guys like Kendrell Bell and J. Trotter out there as well as a few others at LB, this would go along way in improving speed on defense and getting quality players that are provern in the league. Don\'t see us getting Rolle but think that position can be addressed in the draft. |

I think we can get a young qb who is just as good later in the draft-if we move up it should be for a stud linebacker or wait and get a dt..I think though that we could get someone very nice for Howard if we just play our cards right.

i\'m not for moving up to get smith unless they move brooks before then, which they wont. but if he fell to #16 he would be hard to turn down, an even better take than smith last year. my hopes are on qb walter if he is still around at #40.
