Contract-year QB Drew Brees remains "very confident" he'll sign an extension this offseason.
"I wouldn’t say there’s anything complicated about it, and yet I understand it’s a process," Brees said. "So I know that these things happen in due time." An extension is of the essence for the cap-strapped Saints, as Brees' $30 million cap number is the highest in the entire league. New Orleans reportedly has just $1.3 million in space. The New Orleans Times-Picayune has guessed Brees' deal will be worth $22 million annually. That would be a very modest increase on the $20 million he's averaged under his current deal. Brees is undoubtedly angling for more in what's likely his final payday.

I could be totally wrong here, but something tells me that Sean and Drew are using the buddy system. Sean was packing his contract around in his briefcase the other day and hadn't even put ink to the paper. He's probably waiting for Drew's to get hammered out so they can sign together and make sure they both stay in NOLA.
I could be wrong, but why not start some weird rumors? Besides, nothing else is going on around here. Lol |

NOLA.com’s Jeff Duncan "wouldn’t completely rule out" Drew Brees playing out his contract year.
"However, both sides know it's in their best interest to get a deal done," Duncan added. Brees is owed $30 million against the cap and holds all the leverage, but has expressed confidence an extension will get worked out. The Saints haven’t made any progress with Brees despite having only $1.3M in cap space. Brees is expected to command $22M-plus annually on his new deal. I get that Drew's gotta' take care of his family. Maybe he should worry about taking care of his O-line and winning another Championship a little bit too.
