Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

Laquon Treadwell clocks unofficial 4.63 40-yard dash at pro day.

Laquon Treadwell was clocked unofficially in the mid-4.6s on Monday when he ran the 40-yard dash at Ole Miss' pro day. The times legitimize scouting concerns that Treadwell, arguably the top wide receiver in the 2016 NFL Draft, doesn't have the vertical speed NFL clubs typically look for when investing a first-round pick in a wide receiver.

His 3-cone and short-shuttle were pretty bad as well.

Just for comparison, Roman Harper and Kenny Vaccaro ran 4.55.

Terron Armstead 4,71 lol

Should we kick the tires on Anquan Boldin? Insurance. He is still rock solid.

He's not fast, that's for sure. Attacks that ball though.

Re: Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

Still hoping he falls to us...I'm all in...

"He's a big, physical receiver and does an excellent job in the run game, blocking and securing the perimeter ... then, he catches the football. He's strong with the ball in his hands and he's a really dependable target for an offense," Robinson said. "A lot of that has to weigh into your decision as opposed to just, how fast (he ran), or how high (he jumped)."

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze deferred to Treadwell's game film regarding questions about his speed.

"If you put on the tape and you watch how he performs against some of the best players in the nation in this league that we play in, I think that speaks volumes over what the clock says just on a 40 time," Freeze told NFL Network.

We need a big body with sure hands who will go over the middle. What we need is another Colston. He doesn't need to be a burner.

This class of WR's just don't wow me ... especially @ pick #12.

I'm still pushing all of my chips in for a DE or DT with our first pick.

Re: Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

That was his big negative, his speed to separate from press DBs and he proved it. Wasn't a fan to draft him at 12 and still not. Defense defense defense at 12

Exactly. Jerry Rice ran a 4.6 40. Treadwell can be our Jerry Rice.

True but I remember Walsh saying that his 2nd gear was like no other WR in all of that class. He could separate like no other kid he had ever seen in his life.

And yet Treadwell was a league leader in yards after the catch...

Understood but JP, however this is one topic we simply disagree on.

If Tread would fall to the 2nd (highly unlikely), I'd be interested but not @ pick 12 :p.

I say we move Armstead to wide receiver, let Peet takeover and draft another LT, LG and RG

How about Boldin as Brees84 mentioned earlier in this thread? He still is a force & needs a new home :bng:.

I think big bodied sure handed WR's that run 4.62 aren't typically drafted at pick #12.

Re: Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

Don't put to much stock into the 40 times. ESPN or someone did an article not long ago about 40 times. Most Hall of Famers were not even tops in the 40's in their draft class.

Either you can play football or you can't.

It's one of the most overrated things in sports, if 40 times mattered than the Raidiers would be 5 time champs by now

Re: Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

I wouldn't hate taking Treadwell at 12, but it wouldn't be the pick I would make if it were up to me. I'd rather continue to beef up that D line. Everyone says we need Colston's replacement, but he's more or less been a big non factor for the past 2 seasons for sure, and we've gotten along just fine without his former production. That's my two one hundredths of a dollar.

Cruize 03-28-2016 03:30 PM

Re: Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

He's good in a good group. None appears to be game changers. Someone like Treadwell might be average while a guy projected from the 5th to 7th like UMass WR Sharpe could be a star. The Saints need defense in a very talented, deep defensive class. They should go defense unless a can't miss OT like Stanley falls to them.

Marques Colston ran a 4.5 - not that much faster. Treadwell will make a difference wherever he lands.

Re: Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

Colston was listed as a TE/WR project much different than Treadwell who's being talked up as the #1 WR in this class

Yeah, thats horrible. Just looked up Colston and even his slow butt ran a 4.5 at his combine. Maybe this pushes him into the late 1st or better yet the mid 2nd?

Charles Brown (round 2), Andy Alleman (round 3) were second day picks...

We need to draft the best available player when it's our selection irregardless of Brees and his window...

Treadwell might not be worth a top 15 pick, but once you get down to the last 10 picks of the first round...most of those teams pick late because they are good, and they are good because of top QBs, and a top QB and Treadwell will put up a lot of stats.

Can't squander a 12 pick on him, but he and Brees would be such a good fit. If Treadwell lands with NE or GB, watch for prolific rookie numbers.

WHo was that last big, physical receiver that was slower than hell...? Oh yeah, SJB.... Man, we really need some big boys up front far worse.

SJB? Stanley Jean Baptiste, the cornhusker that tried to pass himself off as a cornerback?

How big is his HEART?

Re: Laquon Treadwell pro day... 4.63 40? Ugh!

Laquon Treadwell is a physical player with hearts desire. Dude wants the ball so he goes and gets the ball. He is built to take and dish out a pounding.

This is a tad bit slower than I expected, I thought just under 4.6 but what the heck he did not run like a TE. Never really saw him ever run away from any one in college really.

He will be there at 12 by all odds and trading beck a few spot and still getting Treadwell, looks safer than it did before the 40.

So running this 4.6+ maybe the best thing to happen for the saints. If he is the player the saints want

Trade back risk the player and pocket a draft pick? sure. odds are

Not sure what your point is. All I'm saying is that I dont care what his 40 yard time is. You dont have to be a burner to be a #1WR. Colston wasnt. That being said, I'd rather we go defense at 12, but I wouldnt be disappointed if we used the pick for Treadwell.

Hahaha! Yeah! He first tried to pass himself off as a receiver back in his college days. A beautiful "project" we wasted a second round pick on because he was the right size. I can't help but think of him any time someone says a WR or DB is the right size.

Picking Treadwell does not excite me in the least because there are about twelve other bigger guys we need much worse.

I'm thinking about Emmanuel Ogbah in the 1st. I wouldn't be upset with Treadwell. I really like William Jackson too. Hopefully we could trade back and get them both.
