Saints restructure contract of RB Mark Ingram
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints have restructured the contract of running back Mark Ingram, making him the third player this week to have his salary adjusted to free up salary cap space.
Ingram was slated to make $3 million in base salary in 2016; now he'll make $765,000, with the remaining $2.235 million converted to signing bonus. Ingram's salary cap number will drop from $4 million to $2.51 million, saving the Saints $1.41 million in 2016. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...484-mmmain.jpg Ingram's salary cap number would grow by $745,000 in 2017 and 2018. His cap number will now be $5.245 million in 2017 and $6.245 in 2018. read more |

MI will not be cut. Regardless of his play or lack there of. It is only 3 more years and by that time all 31 million of dead money will be gone. We will be in great shape.

Re: Saints restructure contract of RB Mark Ingram
I'm liking that Boldin thought. Let someone else take Retreadwell. He's going to end up in the okay to average category in the big league.

Re: Saints restructure contract of RB Mark Ingram
We now have 4.5 in cap space. wooooooohooooooooo

Re: Saints restructure contract of RB Mark Ingram
I get making salary cap room, but here's one of the things that bothers me...
When you guarantee the money, you guarantee the player's playing status.... To me, what makes a man get up to go to work in the morning is hunger and obligations and fear of being replaced... When you take that motivation away, you've ruined a good player... The Big Mo definitely handicaps the Bigger Mo... |

Mark just got himself some job security

Re: Saints restructure contract of RB Mark Ingram
The thing that bothers me is the FO restructuring all these contracts to make room, when only one contract could be restructured and extended and would give them plenty of room.
What the hell is the hold up on Brees? None of this would be necessary if a damn contract could be agreed upon. In fact all this tells me is that negotiations are stale. |

I have no problem with him bumping the cap and kicking costs down the road evry year while we have Brees. Our Brees window has about 2 or 3 more years. Make it happen NOW!!! Its why we've probably over-spent on several players. Once Brees retire we'll have a pant load of cap room. |

I am liking Mark Ingram more every day, now.
Here's to Ingram blowing it up in '16! |

This is an extension for new money. New money in a world where elite QBs are making salaries north of $22 million a year. So it's not just as simple as shuffling some salary dollars into signing bonus dollars and spreading the salary over the remaining years. Think about what Brees could get in free agency next year if he were on the open market. And forget franchising him because it'll cost the Saints $40+ for a single year to do so. So if you are Loomis and Tom Condon comes in asking for a 4 year $92 million extension with a $40 million signing bonus, you may have to pause and evaluate the relative value of such an extension. And don't be foolish and think that Brees cannot get his owed $20 million this year and have some team offer him a 4 year $100 million, $60 million in guarantees, with $50 million given to him as soon as he signs the contract next year. So it may be a case of not having the option of a reasonable set of numbers but simply not seeing the value of the market rate. Makes for tough sledding. SFIAH |

Re: Saints restructure contract of RB Mark Ingram
Not sure why some people are surprised by Loomis's tactics and strategy. He has always done this and thats why we are in the predicament that we are in. I agree w Danno that he is being told to win NOW while we still have Brees performing at a high level. But even from the beginning, he has always leveraged the future for the present. Hey if we can win another SB in the next few years, who cares what our cap space looks like in 2019. What we need now is a solid O-Line to protect Brees because our best chances of winning is to outscore our opponents. Offense wins championships in NOLA lol

The only leverage we have is that he wants to stay here. Thats maybe worth a measly couple million per season, but thats still a whopping huge contract. |

"No cap room! No cap room! "
Mickey restructures to make "Cap Room" " No Desire! No Desire!" Next? Of course if all the moves pay off.......... "I never doubted!!!!" Easy game to play! |
