Did anyone else notice the missing pink elephant in the article?

How can we even be having a discussion about free agency without discussing the linebacker position.

Same old Saints. It\'s sad man. Really sad.

Smokescreen? Please oh please let it be a smokescreen.
If we go into 2005 with Hodge/Rodgers/Ruff/Knight with this coaching staff, I\'m gonna spew.

Notice that the article said that the Saints \"plan to be aggressive\" in FA this year? Shocker. Let\'s recap shall we?

2002 & 2003 - we \"rebuilt\" the defense, with such stars as Dale Carter, Orlando Ruff, Tebucky Jones, Ashley Ambrose, and Jonathan Sullivan

2004 - the plan was what? Don\'t change a thing. We\'ve got the players, they just need to finally \"gell\".

2005 - Nevermind all that, we\'re going to be aggressive!

Kind of reminiscent of the good old days. 2000 - lead league in sacks. 2001 - ship off Glover, Johnson, and move Clemons from OLB to MLB. Go big at DT with the lunch bunch... b/c hey, leading the league in sacks was a problem. 2002 - we\'re too slow, we need speed on defense. 2003 - we need a DT to stuff the run in the middle, let\'s trade every draft pick we have to move up and sign Gravy Jackson\'s younger and less mature long-lost brother.

\"Excuses, excuses, excuses. That’s all anyone ever makes for the New Orleans Saints’ organization.\" - Eric Narcisse

Loomis said, are no longer in need of an extreme makeover.
---extreme maybe not but this product has the appearance of same old same old endgame. some makeover IS needed in my opinion.

There\'s no reason to gamble on high-risk talents like Albert Connell, Grady Jackson or Dale Carter or take chances on injury question marks like Brian Williams, David Sloan or DeShone Myles
---that is true, some second rate used up risky ballplayers with issues have been acquired. i will reiterate an article from march 13, 2000 though when mueller took over a 3-13 team tho...
Think of the new Saints as an aardvark that has all of free agency as its ant hill. In a series of slurps, they signed eight free agents from other teams, six of whom--quarterback Jeff Blake, receivers Joe Horn and Jake Reed, defensive tackle Norman Hand, middle linebacker Charlie Clemons and cornerback Fred Thomas--are projected starters.
---by n large that was more saavy moves that thurned the team around in one year. i dont remember off hand all of the moves, which was mueller-which was loomis. that said, i think most will agree the moves have been making less impact as time goes on. read this article if ya didn\'t before, it is extremely contrasting of what five years can bring...

danno, i think hodge will walk. i will be surprised if any veteran lb of any substance is added now. they are going with allen-watson-bock and \"supplement\" them with a draft pick or two imo.

i\'m really sad about them backing off at ot miller. he reminds me way too much of gandy- maybe one decent year left, then start declining more than likely.

prisco had a great free agent rankings really reducing the \"name\" factor and adjusting for age as well. guess what LBs were #5 and #7 overall? pierce and hartwell. there was some great deduction of this on threads here in the past few weeks. on his list OTs go like this: #22 oliver ross, #25 jonas jennings, #27 kareem mackenzie, #29 stockar mcdougle, #35 vicor riley (with the comment- In 2003, he had an outstanding year. Then he tailed off last season. He is capable of bouncing back.), and then miller listed after him at #42- he\'s still a solid right tackle. Age (32) is starting to be a concern.

prisco article-

\"No one in our organization is satisfied with 8-8,\" Loomis said. \"We\'ve got to improve our team somehow, some way, whether it\'s through free agency, the draft or getting better performances out of our own guys.\"
Who else died a little inside when you read option three: \"getting better performances out of our own guys\"?

On a happier note, we locked in a bunch of valuable special teamers: Houser (stud), Carney (fading, but good), Berger (first rate), M. Lewis (we\'ll need a beer truck driver when our Waterboy takes over for AB). In all seriousness, I really believe that these are key re-signings.

One the other hand, WE F**KING NEED ANOTHER LINEBACKER! Do it.

mike florio at pro football talk usually has good comments. about this article-

The Saints also plan to be aggressive in free agency (and maybe instead of signing bonuses they\'ll give out some of Tom Benson\'s high-priced spoons from his wedding registry).
