Saints legend Hokie Gajan, fan favorite on field and in broadcast booth, dead at 56

Hokie Gajan, a hard-nosed, Louisiana-bred running back who later became a cherished New Orleans Saints radio announcer, died Monday night, WWL radio announced. He was 56.
Gajan was diagnosed last fall with a rare form of cancer called liposarcoma that forced him to step back from his familiar place in the Superdome broadcast booth. http://imgsrv.wwl.com/image/DbGraphi...05/2119350.jpg While Gajan battled the disease, fans and friends rallied around him. Hundreds turned out two weeks ago for a fundraiser, although Gajan was in the hospital and unable to attend. read more on NOLA Per WWL. Re: Sad Hokie has passed away
This has been one messed up weekend for us Saints fans |
Re: Sad Hokie has passed away
Man. I didn't get the indication that he was that bad off when we found out a few months back. Never expected him to be gone so soon. Will pray for the family of another fallen Saint.

Re: Saints legend Hokie Gajan, fan favorite on field and in broadcast booth, dead at 56
My late Dad (he was from Gladewater, Texas) use to say that Hokie made watching, listening to the Saints bearable...
Sad thing is that he was only 56 years old... Hokie was an absolute treasure and Saints games will never be the same without him... Mom was just saying "they always pass in threes" and I tried to avoid the thread re: Hokie going to ICU... Damn, this has been a bad week for us... May God comfort his family... |

Re: Saints legend Hokie Gajan, fan favorite on field and in broadcast booth, dead at 56
Woke up to a text from my dad saying "Sunday afternoon trips from the club aren't going to be the same."
Many many years of my life have been spent between Louisiana & Missisissippi, hunting and fishing the La. Delta w/ my father. He was at Tulane Stadium the year Dempsey kicked the 63 yarder, and to this day the two of us spend our Sundays traveling home from camp, listening to our beloved Saints. We'll miss you Hokie, may you rest in eternal peace. |

Re: Saints legend Hokie Gajan, fan favorite on field and in broadcast booth, dead at 56
Well I have a short (1 minute) video of Hokie scoring against the Oilers in 1984 that I was going to post but can't get to upload...
Wanted some of the younger folk here to see Hokie in action. He always gave it 110% and his love of football and the Saints showed every time he was on the field or in the booth... |
Re: Saints legend Hokie Gajan, fan favorite on field and in broadcast booth, dead at 56

Him and Buddy on WWL. Really fond memories of that time. When we won, which was not often, Hokie really squeezed all the goodness out of it. Like story telling football barb about your heroes. A lot of fun. Just a good person and good player.

Hokie made me proud to be a Saints fan in a time when there wasn't a lot to be proud of.
