Hokie Gajan, a hard-nosed, Louisiana-bred running back who later became a cherished New Orleans Saints radio announcer, died Monday night, WWL radio announced. He was 56.
Gajan was diagnosed last fall with a rare form of cancer called liposarcoma that forced him to step back from his familiar place in the Superdome broadcast booth. While Gajan battled the disease, fans and friends rallied around him. Hundreds turned out two weeks ago for a fundraiser, although Gajan was in the hospital and unable to attend. read more on NOLA Per WWL. Re: Saints legend Hokie Gajan, fan favorite on field and in broadcast booth, dead at 56
My late Dad (he was from Gladewater, Texas) use to say that Hokie made watching, listening to the Saints bearable...
Sad thing is that he was only 56 years old... Hokie was an absolute treasure and Saints games will never be the same without him... Mom was just saying "they always pass in threes" and I tried to avoid the thread re: Hokie going to ICU... Damn, this has been a bad week for us... May God comfort his family... |
