Blockbuster!!! Titans Trade Top Draft Pick To LA Rams...How it affects Saints?!?

Better players for us at #12

Well it will guarantee that atleast one QB will be picked before the #12 pick because I can't see the Rams trading like that to get anything else.

Rams draft Goff
Browns draft Wentz

That's 2 QB's already. Then you have Eagles or Niners who could reach for Lynch

I don't think it effects us at all in terms of any great players sliding down to us. However, if the Titans want to use one of their new 3rd round picks to trade up to 12 I'd be more than happy to trade down to 15 with them.

Historically, it almost never works out for either team yet, here we are again..

Jerry Jones could flip the script and grab one of the QB's instead of the obvious need they have (Bosa), leaving yet another defensive player on the board. The desperation moves are not over.

Expect it to get crazy.

I think Philly is a strong candidate to draft a QB @ 8. Even with the new deal for Bradford, many aren't sold on him or his health in the city of Brotherly Love.

no qb in the draft was worth it. as a matter of fact i can not think of one ever.

not sold on clevland taking a QB to be honest
not sold on dallas taking a QB either
not sold on SF taking a QB as a matter of fact
I am not even sold on LA taking a QB

there is a good chance all the QBs will be on the board at 12

Re: Blockbuster!!! Titans Trade Top Draft Pick To LA Rams...How it affects Saints?!?

Walter's take on the trade:

Quote:

Rams acquire No. 1 overall pick, Nos. 113 and 117 from Titans for Nos. 15, 43, 45 and 76, and 2017 first- and third-rounders
Four years ago, the Rams dealt the No. 2 overall choice to the Redskins for a king's ransom of draft picks, which Washington used to select Robert Griffin. That was deemed as a great trade at the time for the Redskins, who were desperate for a franchise quarterback. That move would look outstanding at first, as Griffin led the team to the playoffs as a rookie, but flamed out ever since. Because Washington surrendered so many draft choices, its depth was shot. The team finally recovered in 2016, though it needed the quarterback from the best squad in the division to go down in order to claim the NFC East.

It's funny to see that the Rams are on the other side of things. They've soared all the way from No. 15 to move in position to select a franchise quarterback. As I tweeted out, Charlie Campbell reported two months ago that the Rams love Carson Wentz, so that's apparently whom they are going to take.

Let me clear here: I understand the importance of a franchise quarterback. For those who have been reading the site for a while, you know that I do. However, surrendering countless resources like this is a sketchy move to begin with, even if it's for a highly rated prospect like Griffin was four years ago. Depth is extremely important, so with all of these picks gone - as well as several key free agents departing this offseason - the Rams won't be very deep. Like the Ravens, they'll be done after incurring a couple of key injuries.

Making matters worse, this is the wrong year to trade up for a signal-caller. It's not like last year when there were two studs - Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota - atop the class. And it's not like next year when Deshaun Watson will be available (click here for my 2017 NFL Mock Draft.) This class is very weak, and it's headlined by two quarterbacks other teams have been lukewarm on. Neither Wentz nor Jared Goff is a slam-dunk franchise quarterback. In fact, it's quite possible that both will flop. If so, the Rams will be horrible for a very long time.

I can't give Los Angeles a Millen grade for this. At least it's trying, and it's adding some excitement, which is needed in Los Angeles, where people haven't expressed enthusiasm for pro football in the past. However, I have to penalize them with a "D" grade. This is an awfully risky move that has a huge chance of backfiring.

As for the Titans, this is an unbelievable trade, worthy of an A+. They won't be able to obtain a blue-chip prospect anymore, but as mentioned, this class wasn't good to begin with. The 2017 draft will be loaded, however, so Tennessee will really be able to strengthen its roster with two potential top-10 selections. Having three second-rounders this year will be enormous for depth purposes.

At 15, I expect Tennessee to do what it was planning to do at No. 1 - target a tackle or a defensive back. Jack Conklin, Mackensie Alexander and Eli Apple are some of the names that will be under consideration. We'll have a better idea once we talk to our sources in the coming days, so check back in our 2016 NFL Draft Rumors page.

Oh, and two things: First, I'll be updating my 2016 NFL Mock Draft later today, and I'll also be posting a winners and losers column for this trade.

Second, Would it kill the Rams not to conduct a trade so early? The five fans they have in Los Angeles were all asleep when the trade was announced at 6:15 a.m. locally. How are the Rams expected to build up excitement in their new city by making big moves when everyone is still in bed?

Grade for Rams - D
Grade for Titans - A+

Re: Blockbuster!!! Titans Trade Top Draft Pick To LA Rams...How it affects Saints?!?

The Titans have 6 picks in the top 75 selections. That is what I call controlling the top end of the NFL Draft.

If
their scouts have done their homework, the Titans should have something in a few years. They already have a young promising QB with a year of experience under his belt.

LA Rams are going balls deep to get the #1 pick and make big hype because they know that Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, Clippers, USC, UCLA are all major draws.

Been saying this for weeks

The Rams got fleeced on this trade. There are QBs like Hackenberg or Hogan that can be drafted later in the draft without giving up a king's ransom to move up. IMO Hogan is the best QB in this class

I feel bad for Carson Wentz. By all accounts he's the one the Rams want instead of Jared Goff so he'll be going from North Dakota State to being the face of the franchise in L.A. with a head coach who doesn't know a damn thing about QB's. Kid doesn't stand a chance.

Re: Blockbuster!!! Titans Trade Top Draft Pick To LA Rams...How it affects Saints?!?

I think this does affect us a bit...

I mean there are pretty much certain that there is going to be QB's and 2 spots before us... if another team senses a run on the position someone could go ahead and pull the trigger.

Even though there aren't the greatest of QB's the position is one of dire need to some teams. More of a run on QB's frees up higher rated D players falling to us that we may have to take someone on D instead of another WR.

I hope we draft a strong D player, but if Treadwell is on the board at 12 I expect we pick him.

Re: Blockbuster!!! Titans Trade Top Draft Pick To LA Rams...How it affects Saints?!?

49'ers may now reach for Lynch. That would be awesome. 3 qb's gone in the top 10 picks giving us a top 6 defensive player sitting at 12. Very good chance the Titans may trade up a couple to grab the OT they want. 3 projected to go in the top10-15.

Don't know about that Chris...

That's still one helluva defense without Laurinaitis and Long...

Then you've got that young offensive line with all those high draft picks...

Not to mention they've got Gurley and he's got a season under his belt and will have a good understanding of pass protection assignments unlike his rookie season...

That's not a bad situation for a young, talented quarterback with a good head on his shoulders...

Re: Blockbuster!!! Titans Trade Top Draft Pick To LA Rams...How it affects Saints?!?

We won't know how much the Rams overpaid for a couple of seasons...

But consider, the Rams, despite their record, have had a top 5 defense for several years...

And they have a young strong running game...

They've lacked what we take for granted - a quarterback...

So if they go to the playoffs after how ever long and win even one playoff game in their first year in Los Angeles...

Anyways, just wait and see how this quarterback, if it is a quarterback, shakes out...

You know what JP? I had a brain fart and forgot about Gurley. You're right that defense and a running game is a must for a rookie QB.

I agree. They've been a QB away from stealing that division.

Re: Blockbuster!!! Titans Trade Top Draft Pick To LA Rams...How it affects Saints?!?

I first saw the news breaking on a crawl, and it seems like it was never ending. Pick after pick, after pick given up by the Rams. I thought I was reading some fan's conjured up dream of what he hoped his team would get back for trading the #1 pick.

This is a mistake for the Rams, even if whoever they take (presumably Goff) works out, unless he ends up being the next truly great QB in the league. I don't see greatness in any QB they might take. I won't be at all surprised if this is remembered for a very long time as one of the dumbest trades ever.

What the Saints did in '99 was worse, on the surface, but at least we later got a couple first rounders back for Ricky Williams.

That was one of them, yeah. The other was Charles Grant, who was good for a few years anyway. Then they go and trade up the next year to draft the highly overrated Sullivan. I never liked it, even before he fell flat on his face.

Randy Mueller worked hard to turn the Saints into a playoff team in 2000. '01 didn't go well, but he drafted Deuce McCallister that year most likely with the idea that he'd eventually trade Ricky. He got back what turned out to be two first rounders, and the opportunity was there to significantly improve the team. But no, Benson fires Mueller out of nowhere for no reason other than ego, I can only assume, and leaves it up to Loomis and the goons. They screw it all up and send the Saints right back into purgatory. But Loomis kept his job. Then got lucky on a coach and a shot in the dark with an injured QB-turned hall of famer, and was anointed a "genius".

People who worship Loomis, nowadays, seem to have forgotten that past.. He's made a string of bad moves in recent years, again, yet Benson won't touch him. I'll never understand that.
