The QB after Brees.

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Of coarse I don't know for sure but it seems like if Saints had confidence in him they wouldn't be signing these other qbs...

Hope your right. I love Brees but hate his cap number. Unless a deal is made we won't have him next year anyway. Franchising him next year would cost 43 million. No QB ever was worth that.

I have no problem with the Saints drafting or signing a UDFA QB every year. It would be foolish not to if you have the draft choice available. Every good franchise wants a solid low cost backup on the roster. You see, it is not that the Saints have any doubt whatsoever in Brees. They simply want to maximize the value of the backup QB.

If you are implying that Grayson will be ready to be a backup, maybe. I personally feel he has little chance of beating out McCown who I believe is far superior. He would have to be at least close and then his lower cap number would warrant the spot. Either way, neither QB has much of a chance of ever starting.

A deal will be made. I have been saying all along that there is no reason to finalize the extension until after the draft. I am sticking to that prediction. But, to be honest, under current conditions, the Saints can absorb the current cap hit and work up a whole new deal next off season, although I seriously doubt that would happen.

I believe you are right. I think it's just minor details holding it up. They would be stupid not to. Even if it was 25 a year I would be fine with that. Everything falling off next year will help.

Actually, I think virtually every detail has been agreed to, but the amount that Loomis needs for 2016 cap space will not be known until after the draft. Brees gets his money anyway, so how much of the guaranteed amount is credited toward 2016 would mean nothing to him, but it means the world to a brilliant cost accountant like Loomis. I would bet my left gonad that this is the final detail.

Edit: By the way, I have wagered the same before and still have my little buddy.

Haven't seen anything from Grayson to think this pick was a good decision. His ceiling is backup QB, not starter. The next starter will come from bringing in another free agent
