Saints held talks for Number 1 Pick

Seems like talks were jeld for the number 1 pick. I wonder if the plsn is let Brees play out this year and move on,or let someone sit for a year behind him.
I hope we dont give up much to jump up for Lynch if true

Ian Rapaport
As storylines develop for Thursday, one to keep in mind: The #Saints had talks about moving up to No. 1 for a QB. Will they do it for Lynch?

You can't believe anything that Ian Rapaport tweets, especially this time of year. Every front office in the league wants every other front office to believe that they are wanting to move their pick. It adds value. Outlandish lies are the norm this time of year.

Please someone take the bait and trade up in front of us pushing a great defensive player into our lap! Or, maybe we will take Lynch at 12. Who knows?! We'll find out soon enough.

The Saints are trying to make people believe they want a QB in hopes someone will want to jump up to #12.

Brees isn't going anywhere. I expect the extension will be a very difficult one to negotiate with his age now a major factor moving forward. We do not need Treadwell or Lynch. We need beastly, durable lineman on both sides of the ball. A Herschel Walker style trade to move up would be suicide for the team after multiple useless drafts.

I just hope Jets or Bills trade up and get Lynch. Don't let Payton and co even think about it.

Just sign Brees already... Age doesn't matter. He performed great last year and we haven't seen any drop off.

Give him 4years 100mil and let's stop talking about it.

I honestly feel that the extension has already been, for the most part, hammered out. All that remains is how the amount is to be distributed and that will not be known until after the draft and any other personnel moves. For example, if the Saints choose to move into the first round for a second pick the required cap space would naturally be higher. As long as the guaranteed figure remains the same for Brees it would make no difference to him when he receives it.

No need to sign Brees yet. No reason at all.

What a Revelation! Teams talk to other teams about "How much for......?!!!!!

NO!!!! NEVER!!!!

We all know they "Fly Under The Radar" "Kick The Tires" "See What's Left In The Tank" try to determine exactly who is a "Beast" and lastly see who they can "Get On The Cheap" for the proverbial "Hometown Discount"

Just another reason to hate the off season!!!

Paxton Lynch. I like him. I'd prefer a pass rusher at pick 12 though. Shaq Lawson or Noah Spence. Hell, I wish we could get two 1st rounders somehow and really improve the defensive line. Still, Lynch is an intriguing prospect to me.

What about Grayson though?

Grayson shouldn't even be on this team, that pick should of been used on the Oline

The Saints are simply hoping he can be a backup some day. If they were confident that he could they most likely wouldn't have given McCown his deal (2 year/$3 million).

I am a big Drew fan but I was a Saints fan first. Do whats best for the team. If what was said is true it means the Brees talks were stalled. If so, I beleive he was mentioned in the trade. No reason to keep someone for 1 year when you can get a ton of picks for him. Now, if Drew is not going to be a Saint next year I would trade back in rd 1 and take Connor Cook.

What do you mean, "If what was said is true it means the Brees talks were stalled"? If you are talking about the Rapaport crap then ChrisXVI has already shown that there is nothing to it ... which, by the way, is exactly what I said earlier. And once again, I feel pretty confident that not only has the Brees talks not stalled, but that the deal has already been made except for cap hit details which nobody knows until after the draft.

Re: Saints held talks for Number 1 Pick

Don't forget that every NFL franchise has at least three QB's on the roster and practice squad. Not picking up a QB through either the draft or through undrafted free agency every off-season is not doing your due diligence. It does not in any way mean they are "actively" searching for the next starter. You want the two, or more, non-starting QB's to be a balance of talent and value. That means you are constantly looking to upgrade.

Its to our advantage to make all 31 teams think we may go QB in this years draft.

True or not, signing Brees before the draft convinces all 31 teams we likely are not going QB.

That is true, as well. There are a number of reasons NOT to finalize an extension with Brees until after the draft and not a single good reason TO finalize anything immediately. And the mental well-being of a few fans is definitely not a good reason. ;)

Lynch won't make it to 12 with the Rams taking Goff, The Eagles taking Wentz and Lynch going to any number of teams; Chargers, Cowboys, Jags, 49ers, Browns and Giants (Sorry Eli).

I guess they didn't have talks about trading up, nevermind!

NFL | Report: Saints did not discuss No. 1 pick - Rotoworld.com

ESPN's Mike Triplett reports the Saints did not discuss trading for the No. 1 overall pick.

This refutes a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who said the Saints were interested in trading up to acquire a quarterback. Triplett denies the Saints were ever involved in trade talks for No. 1, but he does agree the Saints are interested in adding a quarterback, perhaps in the middle rounds. Entering the final year of his deal, Drew Brees said extension talks

I say pick up Manziel on the really, really, cheap lock him into an incentive laden contract for 5 years and let Drew teach him. Would be worth a shot for cheap but also we should get another QB for Drew to mentor just in case.

I mean that if they were looking to trade for the #1 pick they would be looking to draft a QB. If Drew is days away from signing an extention there would be no reason to trade up. Why would you trade up to have a QB sit for 3-5 years?

I guess we have to have something to talk about between now and the draft, but it really doesn't matter to me what was, or was not, discussed. Nothing came of it, either way. There are some things that I'll try to read between the lines on, but when it comes to talk of potential draft picks or draft trades, I don't even blink anymore, until something actually happens.

This is the season of hot air. For more reasons than the weather.
