Is it just me, or does it always seem like the good players in free agency aren\'t ones that the Saints need. For example - this year it seems like there are a lot of very good DEs and OLBs available, but the talent is not nearly as good at DT and MLB - the positions that the Saints most need to fill. Why is that?

One other question... which I have posed before... why don\'t the Saints go pick up Willie Jackson? They\'re talking about letting Jake Reed go... I know they have young guys they like, but Jackson played great in our system... and seemed to be able to fill both posession receiver and game breaker type roles... he\'s a UFA whose not currently with any team. If he wanted number 1 receiver money last year, I think he learned his lesson by basically not playing this year. Why not go get him?

Good point about Willie Jackson, Gator, I had thought of that myself. However, didn\'t he play great for us? What did he have, 70, 80 catches in his last two years in NO? Unless there are some real locker room problems that we don\'t know about, I just don\'t get it. I would think we would have heard about the LR problems too if they had happened after 2001. The only beef I\'ve heard is that he wants to be a number 1 receiver, and more importantly, wants the money that comes along with that.
There are certainly a lot of other receivers out there, so it\'s not like we need him. I\'m just thinking that maybe his ego is back in check after being cut so much in the last year that he\'ll come crawling back cheap. Maybe it\'s wishful thinking, but again, like Jake, at least he already knows the system. If he\'s willing to take what the Saints will pay him and not complain... why not? |
