New Orleans Saints second-round pick Von Bell, a safety out of Ohio State, talked to the local media via teleconference Friday night:

Are you surprised that it was the Saints that called you?

"Not too much, coach Payton and I had a few phone calls going back and forth and we kept in contact pretty closely and he wanted to pick me. I really had confidence in the Saints and in the organization and I am very blessed to be a part of the organization."



How much contact did you have with them through the draft process?

"I had (contact) a couple of times because they worked me out at pro day and we had dinner together and me and coach Payton called me one day and we talked on the phone a couple times and we just started the bond then. He (coach Payton) wanted to see my workouts and drills that I didn't do at my pro day and I said I'd get my video guy to get them to you. It was a commitment there and he said I followed up with the plan and that's why he picked me. I was a man of my word and I did what he asked me to do. It showed that I was a coachable player. We just built a bond right there and it clicked since then."

How do you think you fit in the Saints defense?

"I think I fit very well, I'm a ballhawk and they will get another general on the field and you'll get a young guy that is eager to learn information from veterans and this coaching staff and just make big plays for this club."

Did you play free safety?

"I played free safety, we really moved around. I can play either or."

I think the secondary looks good right now. Front 7? I do like a few moves they made and doubled down on fortifying that gaping hole they called the middle, a veteran playcaller at ILB thats good. Still a little worried about 1 side of the OLB position. But overall most of the players are in place on paper, still paper is just that, paper.
