There was a small bit of information Daniel Lasco withheld from New Orleans Saints running backs Joel Thomas during their two-hour meeting in Berkeley, Calif.
But don't worry, it's nothing serious. "Growing up, I've always loved the Saints," Lasco said after that team selected him in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Lasco, a former Cal running back who hails from the Houston area, said he withheld that bit of information to avoid sounding like he was giving lip service during what amounted to a lengthy job interview. What he wanted the Saints to focus on were his devotion to special teams -- "I'm going to make my living on special teams," he said -- and his quickness as a 6-foot, 209-pound running back. He also wanted them to know how well he recovered from the hip and ankle injuries that caused him to miss three games in 2015. He did so with a strong showing at the East-West Shrine game, following by a pair of chart-topping workout numbers at the NFL scouting combine. "I'm 100 percent and ready to get to work," he said. Lasco finished his college career with 2,395 all-purpose yards over 41 games and 15 starts, including 1,872 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 48 passes for 458 yards and two touchdowns as a teammate to No. 1 overall drafted quarterback Jared Goff. read more |

Re: 7th-round pick Daniel Lasco says why he never told coaches he 'always loved the Saints'
kid has head screwed on straight. Murphy better have his head on swivel looks like he might be in a fight for a roster spot. I hope the kid can develop even a fraction of Murphy ability to attack seams skills. Speed was and is my only issue with Murphy at this level.
