Yes, "if 100% healthy" he's easily in our top 3.

Obviously the "100% healthy" is the hard part.

I'm starting to think he was a Pro bowler because he was the simply the Only Good Player on a Bad Team. I mean, if he was hurt but making plays I would cut him some slack. But not only is he perpetually hurt but he hasn't made any plays. I want to pull for him but the way he's playing I just can't.

Danno, you think he's third best on Defense? IMO I have Cam #1, WestBank #2, and Breaux #3. The reason I put WestBank over Breaux, is because with a healthy WestBank, it will means the defensive coaching can blitz with reckless abandon. I would honestly have Byrd no higher than 7th behind Laurinitis #4, Rankins #5, and Kikaha #6.

Slow down on Breaux. He looks promising but so do a lot of players their first year on a crappy defense. If it weren't for his backstory we probably wouldn't be as high on him as we are. He did well but also had some real boneheaded mistakes. I think he has potential to be one of our best but to say he is 3rd best is kind of a reach at this point.

There defense was a hell of a lot better than ours is.
He's made plenty of plays when he's been in. He was the one guy who was almost always around the ball.

At one point in the season he had only given up like 1 yard during a 3 game stretch. The kid is legit. We'll see him really shine this year.

But it didn't equate to wins. Keep in mind we had the 4th Ranked D the season before he arrived. I want to root for him, but he has to show me something.

Re: Non-Saints: Jairus Byrd out with knee injury

Byrd is both poorly coached and has played very poorly

He is 40 yards deep (that is on the coaches) and never converges on the ball or whiffs when it comes his way

One forced fumble in the 2014 Atlanta opener and a key intercept in one game last year - outside of that - nothing

Panthers 2nd game
3rd qtr - 3rd and goal on 17, four backs in endzone, he just stands there as his guy walks catches one in the endzone
4th - cam hits gwynn in stride, play is coming right to him, he manages put put an arm on him, doesnt break stride, td

14 points fully attrubuted to Byrd

Injury aside
Byrd has seen plenty of time on the field last year and the first 4 games (all losses) in 2014
He has completely lost any tenacity he had

Byrd is a true bust

I disagree! His knee/back injury has hampered him since he's been here:

Kid can and will play if injuries have finally healed... and don't forget DA is a secondary guru. Remember what he did with Porter...

Pretty hard to find much tape on Byrd

Look at his numbers
Injury or no

Start of 2014 seaon he played injury free
and was invisible

So if Byrd is still having lingering injury how does he play with "better coaching?"

You sir are wrong; he had back surgery as soon as he signed in 2014 before he ever played a down...

Saints' Jairus Byrd has back surgery to fix disc issue - NFL.com

He never was 100%, if I remember correctly...

Quote:

Byrd appeared to be damaged goods. He immediately needed back surgery to repair a herniated disc, causing him to miss most of the offseason program.
