Trade or cut him, idiotic idea to give a guy that can't stay healthy a 6 year deal with that much money.

Soooooooo happy we drafted Von Bell. Week 1 starter, because I'm very positive Byrd is going to have a set back and not be ready by then.

This is very quickly approaching being one of the worst free agent signings in the history of the NFL.

If you wait until next year, it would save $3.7M against the cap to cut him (though he would still count $8M against our 2017 cap). You are looking at roughly $6.9M (on top of his $10.9M cap number) to cut him this year. I'd be surprised if the FO let him go in 2016.

Injuries are unfortunate and part of the game but JB's knee hasn't been right in almost 3 years.

New Orleans Saints safety Jairus Byrd did not participate in OTAs on Thursday and is rehabbing a knee injury that has plagued him since 2014.

Saints coach Sean Payton said that Byrd is expected back for training camp, as is Cam Jordan, who is rehabbing a back injury and did not practice.

"He's going through his rehab, he's right on schedule," Payton said. "It's nothing different than what was expected. He was expected to be ready when training camp starts and right now he's getting walkthroughs and some individual work. He's on schedule."

The waiting until training camp is a problem. These players need him now. The chemistry is not going to be there with Bell and Byrd.

Re: Non-Saints: Jairus Byrd out with knee injury

Sit him on the bench until he can be released with minimal effect against our cap...

If he's injured and unable to play, put him on injured reserve and move on so the team can gel...

I understand about jelling, but Byrd at 100% is probably our 2nd or 3rd best player on defense.
Let's see how healthy he is when TC starts before we blackball him

Good payer in Buffalo. Not great. Bad contract in New Orleans.

Danno, you think he's third best on Defense? IMO I have Cam #1, WestBank #2, and Breaux #3. The reason I put WestBank over Breaux, is because with a healthy WestBank, it will means the defensive coaching can blitz with reckless abandon. I would honestly have Byrd no higher than 7th behind Laurinitis #4, Rankins #5, and Kikaha #6.

I'm not only mixing the Kool-Aid and sugar but drinking it out of a Hefty Mug!! Everything I read about "Rankinstein" says this kid is the real deal!! They say he's quiet, listen's to Coaches and is very business like in his approach. Exactly what we needed in our First Round Pick. Plus he's exactly what we needed. We needed a run stuffing DT who can also apply pressure, "Rankinstein" does that. We also wanted a versatile player who can play in multiple schemes, "Rankinstein" fits that mold. Lastly we needed a kid who would come in ready to work. "Rankinstein" says that he's working to understand the position fully. I've pushed all my chips to the center with our 1st Round Pick. I'm holding 4 ACES.

Let him school the rookie and play Byrd as much as possible. Let Bell get a season under his belt and we can kiss most of Byrds contract buh bye next year.

At this point, like in the Galette situation but for completely different reasons, it's just time to cut bait and move on.

We cant
Its simply too expensive
Next year will still be 8ml in dead money. Expecting a june cut to spread the hit

Can Bell play SS? Could be a wicked tandam Bell at SS with Byrd at FS? Unless Byrd's leg want heel I can't see him being let go either.

He's our 3rd best "if 100% healthy"

He was a 3 time pro-bowler and 2nd team All-Pro.

Yes, "if 100% healthy" he's easily in our top 3.

Obviously the "100% healthy" is the hard part.

I'm starting to think he was a Pro bowler because he was the simply the Only Good Player on a Bad Team. I mean, if he was hurt but making plays I would cut him some slack. But not only is he perpetually hurt but he hasn't made any plays. I want to pull for him but the way he's playing I just can't.

Slow down on Breaux. He looks promising but so do a lot of players their first year on a crappy defense. If it weren't for his backstory we probably wouldn't be as high on him as we are. He did well but also had some real boneheaded mistakes. I think he has potential to be one of our best but to say he is 3rd best is kind of a reach at this point.

There defense was a hell of a lot better than ours is.
He's made plenty of plays when he's been in. He was the one guy who was almost always around the ball.

At one point in the season he had only given up like 1 yard during a 3 game stretch. The kid is legit. We'll see him really shine this year.

But it didn't equate to wins. Keep in mind we had the 4th Ranked D the season before he arrived. I want to root for him, but he has to show me something.

Re: Non-Saints: Jairus Byrd out with knee injury

Byrd is both poorly coached and has played very poorly

He is 40 yards deep (that is on the coaches) and never converges on the ball or whiffs when it comes his way

One forced fumble in the 2014 Atlanta opener and a key intercept in one game last year - outside of that - nothing

Panthers 2nd game
3rd qtr - 3rd and goal on 17, four backs in endzone, he just stands there as his guy walks catches one in the endzone
4th - cam hits gwynn in stride, play is coming right to him, he manages put put an arm on him, doesnt break stride, td

14 points fully attrubuted to Byrd

Injury aside
Byrd has seen plenty of time on the field last year and the first 4 games (all losses) in 2014
He has completely lost any tenacity he had

Byrd is a true bust

I disagree! His knee/back injury has hampered him since he's been here:

Kid can and will play if injuries have finally healed... and don't forget DA is a secondary guru. Remember what he did with Porter...

Re: Non-Saints: Jairus Byrd out with knee injury

Pretty hard to find much tape on Byrd

Look at his numbers
Injury or no

Start of 2014 seaon he played injury free
and was invisible

Re: Non-Saints: Jairus Byrd out with knee injury

So if Byrd is still having lingering injury how does he play with "better coaching?"

You sir are wrong; he had back surgery as soon as he signed in 2014 before he ever played a down...

Saints' Jairus Byrd has back surgery to fix disc issue - NFL.com

He never was 100%, if I remember correctly...

Quote:

Byrd appeared to be damaged goods. He immediately needed back surgery to repair a herniated disc, causing him to miss most of the offseason program.
