Jamie Sharper available
AP reports the Houston Texans have given LB Jamie Sharper to shop himself in a trade and are considering doing the same with fellow LB Jay Foreman. It's possible the team would accommodate a trade for one of those two and then keep the other. Sharper is considered the player who might command the better value in a trade. Trading Sharper would create significant salary cap room because he's in the last year of his contract. If he is traded, the team would save $5.625 million. Foreman has three years remaining on his contract, so the team would only save $890,000.
Now if anyone remembers, he was Ray Lewis' partner in crime. He's an absolute beast and would be a great addition to this team. How about a Howard for Sharper? It seems like the Texans are always looking for pass rushers and we've got a pretty good one to trade with. Now for all you people who say no, he hasn't lost a step and no he's not over the hill. GEEZ! |

Not only has he lost a step and is over the hill, ;) but the Texans run a 3-4 defense. Who says Howard will even fit there? He would have MORE responsiblity in a 3-4, and therefore his injury prone nature would be brought into question. However, since Sharper is older and slow, ;) they may make the deal anyway, but they would have to throw in at least a 3rd.

See for yourself http://www.houstontexans.com/team/ro...l.php?PRKey=61 P.S Surprised the Taxans would let him go?? Maybe the signing og M Greenwood took up too much of the cap? |

I don\'t know much about the guy as of late, but for a guy who is old and slow, he sure does have some impressive stats over the last 3 years:
2002 Houston Texans 16 135 95.0 40 5.5 -sacks 2003 Houston Texans 16 164 105.0 59 4 -sacks 2004 Houston Texans 16 137 96.0 41 2 -sacks I\'ll take him in a New York second.. |

He had a 13 tackle perfermoance against the Saints in 03!

like I said-if we could get their first rounder as well..I want draft picks and lots of them.

Jamie Sharper is the main guy in a 3-4 defense. Of course he is gonna get numbers. Go look at his Baltimore numbers when he wasn\'t the main guy and Ray Lewis was. Not so good. But even with that said, he would be an improvement, although like Danno pointed out, going from a 3-4 to a 4-3 may not be so easy. AND he has been in a 3-4 all his career. I don\'t wanna trade Howard for him though unless they give us something else, like a 3rd.

The 3-4 isn\'t some kind of \"magical\" defense that allows a MLB to post a lot of tackles. It still involves a MLB diagnosing plays, getting through blockers, then wrapping up and bringing the ball carrier down.
I really don\'t think making the switch to the 4-3 is that difficult. It ain\'t exactly rocket science. In fact, in the 4-3 the defensive tackles are suppose to keep the linemen off the MLB and allow him to make plays. |

I don\'t know-there has to be something to the schemes because that is why players choose teams (that and money)

:o at sw... surprised you forgot when Ravens won the Superbowl the ran a 4-3. Boulware, Lewis, and Sharper with 4 DL in front Adams, the funny Spanish guy, McCrary, and one more(forgot his name). Howard would fit into there system because the 3-4 alignment needs the lineman to not only be able to rush the passer, but also stop the run. He fits more there than Jason Babin on the front line and Babin is a pretty good darn player.
And I do recall in Baltimore before Ray Lewis won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, Sharper in some peoples eyes were just as good as he was. I also felt the same way too. Maybe we can get something done here. Honestly in my opinion, I\'d rather have Sharper than Hartwell. Sharper not only excelled next to Lewis, but he stayed at that pace without Lewis. |

papz, :cussing: you are right, I did forget about that 4-3. that other guy was Siragusa, italian.Let\'s explore Sharper\'s difference making numbers though in Balt.
1997 Baltimore Ravens 16 67 53.0 14 3 1 4 4.0 4 0 1 1998 Baltimore Ravens 16 54 45.0 9 1 0 0 0.0 0 0 3 1999 Baltimore Ravens 16 95 78.0 17 4 0 0 0.0 0 0 2 2000 Baltimore Ravens 16 71 58.0 13 0 1 45 45.0 45 0 3 2001 Baltimore Ravens 16 108 77.0 31 6 0 0 0.0 0 0 10 Oh yeah, that\'s big time. Hartwell has blown that away yearly in Baltimore, and he is much younger if we are gonna get someone. I do agree Howard would fit a 3-4 better than Babin, but Howard is also a younger player than Sharper. Like I said, I am on board if we get something else with Sharper, like a 3rd. Why the disagreement when I am on board? [Edited on 4/3/2005 by saintswhodi] |

I\'m well aware of the differences in the 3-4 and the 4-3.
I think it\'s harder for an inside LB in the 3-4 compared to the 4-3. In fact, I know it is. But, regardless of what anyone thinks, Jamie Sharper would bring much needed experience to our young LB group. And his production from the past few years, regardless of scheme, speaks for itself. I\'ve never seen a \"scheme\" make a tackle. I\'ve never seen a \"scheme\" make a pick. I\'ve never seen a \"scheme\" make a sack!! What I have seen are players who know how a \"scheme\" is suppose to work and they put themselves in position to make a play. Now, if anyone has any evidence that Sharper isn\'t intelligent enough of he doesn\'t have the physical ability to adapt to the 4-3 ... then I\'m all ears... ;) |

Well the point is moot because if he is of any quality the Saints won\'t get him....not when young studs like Roman Phifer and Ronald McKinnon are still out there.

saintswhodi -
I was just responding to some comments on the board. Not neccessarily you.. The post said the Texans were considering trading him. In no way do I want to trade Howard for the guy. Not even if they gave us a 3rd to boot. But, I would seriously consider giving them a 2nd or 3rd round pick for the guy. |
Jamie Sharper available
If they would take a 3rd for him I would do backflips. THAT is a deal I would not argue with AT ALL.

We trade our second for Sharper, Trade Howard to move up in draft to get DJ.
Linebacking core....Sharper,Watson,Johnson? |

I don\'t think Sharper trade is going to command a huge trade. I think a second round pick would do it. But, then again, you never know. It will be interesting to see what he brings on the open market. I think this guy is in the Saints\' range.
Here\'s a little info. on Sharper: Quote:

Now if all it cost us is a second rounder that is a no brainer. :)

Well, at least we know the Saints are interested in getting a linebacker. And many teams have addressed their LB needs in free agency already.
I can\'t see Haslett bringing another \"project\" in at MLB again!! Don\'t hold me to that, folks... :P I\'ve gotta believe that they\'ll bring someone of this caliber in. Somehow ... Some way!! I have spoken!! ;) |

Oh goody, goody, goody. Someone else we won\'t go after!
