Minicamp Practice Updates

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; A more likely physical comparison of Gwachum would be to former Miami Dolphins Defensive End Jason Taylor... Tall and lean, unique ability to bend around the edge; but I'm not sure Gwachum has the sand to hold the edge......

Obum Gwatchum at 6-5, 270
Or Robert Quinn at 6-4, 264
Or Chandler Jones 6-5 265
Or Ezekiel Ansah 6-5 275
Or Michael Bennett 6-4, 274
Or Jason Pierre Paul at 6-5, 278
Or Greg Hardy at 6-5 280

Yeah, that one would be a good comparison, the others have more bulk...

I'd be more sure of a 270 pound Gwachum holding the edge rather than a 250 pound Kikaha...

Or a 6-3, 240 Davis Tull?
Or a 6-2, 253 Kasim Edebali?
Or a 6-2, 258 Junior Galette?

Yeah not to mention Davis Tull has T Rex arms. However, we need Gwacham to look like Tarzan AND play like Tarzan so here's hoping he can bring it.

I'm speaking more of football weight distribution; muscle is ~2.5 times that of fat; but you need bulk, that sand in the pants to anchor against blockers...

Picking up an 80 lbs box that is 4 ' X 4' X 4' vs picking up a 95 lbs barbell with friendly grips kinda thing...

And playing DE in college is waaay different than playing DE in the NFL...

Look, the guy has me intrigued and it's impressive that he's taken coaching advice and moved to a different position and worked to build his body...

Cautiously optimistic that Gwachum can challenge, but it's a straight up observation that the guy is just raw-bone...

But as I said in earlier posts, I'm more excited by the number of players we can rotate in that front four...

We don't need a down lineman to play 85% of the snaps; we can rotate people for mismatches and keep the horses fresh to the fourth quarter...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
