New Orleans Saints place safety Jamarca Sanford on injured reserve

The New Orleans Saints have placed veteran safety Jamarca Sanford on injured reserve and signed defensive tackle Lawrence Virgil in his place.

Sanford did not participate in minicamp with an undisclosed injury but was in attendance at practice every day watching from the sidelines.

Sanford has been with the Saints since 2014 and was re-signed as a free agent in the offseason.

Virgil, a 2014 undrafted rookie out of Valdosta State, initially made the team's practice squad and was promoted to the active roster for one game. He spent the 2015 season on IR.

Virgil was at Saints minicamp on a tryout basis last week.
