The New Orleans Saints have been quietly confident in their stable of young edge rushers all offseason, leaving the spot untouched in both the draft and free agency, even after second-year starter Hau’oli Kikaha went down with a torn ACL during organized team activities.
Two of their options at the position remain largely unproven. Obum Gwacham and Davis Tull both possess freakish athletic capabilities, but the pair also have only 97 total NFL snaps between them, leaving their potential contribution more projection than production at this point. I like Kasim Edebali but he leaves a lot to be desired in against the rush. 3rd speed guy that has shown little or no inside moves. work in progress.

I was thinking Obum Gwachum was in the lead to start after the Kikaha injury? Didn't he bulk up to around 270 when DA moved him to a true DE?

I think Obum is still in the lead. Edebali is just good competition for it

If you say all these names and give them credit, maybe one of them will turn out to be good.

Unfortunately this is all true. What you do love about Edibali is the motor. Not many guys that hustle like that. Hes raw so still got a shot. I could see 8 sacks this year. Too bas Kikaha is out. Hopefully Laurinitis still got it.

I think Edebali takes the next step forward, but he better be healed up when the pads are broke out.

I think Edebali had most of his problems at LDE (strong side)
He'll now be on the right side where his speed is an advantage and he doesn't have to set the edge against RT's and TE's on the strong side. In other words it looks like we're gonna use him based on what he does well. You know... round peg, round hole! |

It's gonna be a fun season listening to Bobby Hebert mutilate all these different names

Re: Kasim Edebali has quietly become a potential answer at edge rusher for Saints defensive line
This reads like a typical "preseason hype about random guy the average fan isn't familiar" with type of article. We'll get about 20 more of these, so when one of them comes through as a surprise they can refer back to the article talking about how there were signs of quality. This one wasn't as overt, as the summer moves along they probably will be. If he shows improvement it will go from an article talking about how he's a hard working guy, puts in 100%, the typical cliches to something more like, "flashes of greatness". Or maybe i'm just being a cynical. It's definitely one of those.
