New Orleans Saints: 5 Training Camp Battles to Watch

The New Orleans Saints have finished their off-season programs. They, like the rest of the NFL, have now entered into the waiting period where no team activities are taking place.

While Saints fans now wait for training camp to open up in July; and while the Saints players and organizational staff themselves are all heading off to their month-long vacations in the tropical isles and other incredible breath-taking destinations, all eyes will be on the “battles” for several positions on the Saints roster — to determine several of the starters at a number of those spots.

KEENAN LEWIS VS. P.J. WILLIAMS – #2 (OUTSIDE BOUNDARY) CORNERBACK
Very Interesting; Williams & Breaux will bring the speed! Should have very little problem running with receivers

I don't think this one is a big deal. Essentially because of spread offenses, the top 3 CBs and safeties are all starters anyway.

The big deal in the secondary, as always, is will everyone stay healthy enough to play an entire season... Let's not forget that neither of these two (or Swann for that matter) was able to finish last season.

He was one of those players that I just could not shake by season end. Then got wrapped up into the pre draft beauty show and kinda put him on the back shelf. Then his pro day results rolled in and back haunting my draft list in late rounds.

Quickness out of his stance is a bit of an issue but there is a solid chance he can be coached out of that issue. Once he is moving he is a solid player all around. Nasty smart but needs to get the lead out of his azz out of the gate. So he is the one player in the draft that always stuck in my head that the saints added. a draft ghost

I like Ryker upside more than Litto of whats his name. I hope the saints feel coaching is the answer to solving his quickness.

All the OT/OG UDFA are all best suited inside at OG. Two might be good depth if all else fails at OT.

Ryker Mathews - Best athlete and polished blocker of the group
Avery Young - Not a tackles despite his build needs work
Landon Turner - pass protection is a huge bug-a-bho with this big boy

Change of scheme and a new coach will make a ton of difference on the line.

We already have a stud in Armstead, a healthy Unger & solid/serviceable Streif.

X factor - > D ROUSAR

Streif is a lot of things, serviceable is not one. Liability is a better description.

Some people won't forget Zach's performance vs JJ Watt (arguably best defensive player in the game) or the Bucs game last season. At this point he is average (IMO that is serviceable) for one more year.

We had 3 ... THREE tackles get injured/hurt last season so I'm baffled why anyone would want to get rid of him. Peat hasn't beaten him out at RT & I don't think the coaches are just going to hand out starting positions.

When is training camp again (sarcasm) ?

I have a feeling Lasco will be our rookie we stash on IR this year so that may allow us to keep Cadet AND Murphy.
