Howard-Darius Deal Still Possible
ESPN's John Clayton had this comment when evaluating Hayward to the Jags-
Clayton's take: Hayward's addition is a plus because he was the best on the market. If the Jaguars can trade Donovin Darius to New Orleans for defensive end Darren Howard, they would have one of the best defensive lines in the AFC. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...ohn&id=2004380 |

I disagree, A little. It\'s based on pending needs, and the Saints need to adress the Safety position as it\'s been a weakness. Howard MAY be at the moment 1 for 1 more valuble but this changes when you figure we still have Grant and Smith to cover the spot. We are not comfortable with the saftey position, but are comortable with the DE position even with Howard gone. Thus the deal makes sense to me. Also I\'m not sure what Darius is set to make, so there could be some Cap space cleared??

I wouldn\'t be too unhappy with that trade. If it was a simple draft, sure, Howard over Darius. But one of the main reasons to get rid of Howard is his cap number (7.8 million) or simply his salary (is his contribution really worth half a million dollars a game?). Darius right now is set to make about 5 million, but that number will drop when the Saints sign him to a long-term contract.
It\'s a fair deal like the McCarthy deal. The Saints give up a lot, but they get someone at a need position. I also prefer a player-for-player deal to trading away Howard for a draft pick. How confident are you the Saints are able to find a Donovan Darius in the second round? |

They would have THE BEST... not one the of best defensive line in the NFL. Hayward, Stroud, Henderson, Howard... that\'s just flat out insane.

I agree with Jacksonville having one of the top DEF lines in football, If they get Howard too. They\'re in a div With Manning, Carr, Mcnair ( possibly ), and I wonder if they\'re worried about giving up Darius and exposing the secondary too much for those QB\'s who all have Guns for arms. Mind you if they do....Run Manning ....RUN!!
