The Saints have received favorable reports on the mental and physical condition of Johnathan Sullivan. The third-year defensive tackle has told team officials they are not going to be able to keep him out of the lineup this season. Team officials like what they hear but are reserving judgment until Sullivan reports for the team's offseason conditioning program March 21. . . .

Good to hear that Sullivan has this kind of attitude. What a "bonus" that would be! We'll see.

Nothing else in the article on Sullivan but it's a good read...

I\'m worried that Sullie thinks that his gravy train may be over and he\'s setting up the next contract negotiation by making a passing attempt at being a professional football player. When he gets his next contract, he\'ll go back to the slovenly, dispicable blob he was for the last two + years

Johnathan Sullivan Speaks!!!

... but you can\'t understand him for all the food in his mouth.

Seriously, I don\'t guess this can be bad news. I\'m skeptical as to how excited we should be, but if he even plans to hit the field it\'ll be a step in the right direction.

Is this the same Sully that was busted at the ATL game last year in the HOT DOG line?.......

First, none of us know how Sullivan will perform this season.

It must have be a shock to Sullivan when Haslett benched his butt last season. You wanna talk about a wake-up call!!

Haslett sent the message loud and clear to Sullivan. John Pease has sent a message to Sullivan also. He told Sullivan to not make any plans for the offseason and to remain in New Orleans to get whipped in shape.

Sullivan could be pitching a fit about the coaching staff or whatever ..... But, he seems excited about doing the right thing. That\'s about all you can ask this time of year.

Talk is cheap, though. All anyone can take from this is that it\'s encouraging to hear. I see where no negatives can be taken from what Sullivan said.

Oh, I forgot what board I was posting on... :P

The impact Sullivan COULD make on this defense is tremendous!!

One thing I cannot forgive is laziness and lack of effort. If Sully survives - then he is a very lucky boy. I cannot see how I would have survived as anything with the same attitude and commitment level. But there you go.....

Yep give Sully a chance. But put him on a revised contract of league minimum with the possibility of bonuses for attaining severely high individual targets .

Yeah, he was so shocked he ended up in the ATL buffet line, must\'ve thought he was reassigned as part of the Saints mnedia team huh? Too bad I can\'t forget that all last year he didn\'t give a flying flip that he wasn\'t playing. But of course, the team will believe him, and we won\'t draft or go after a DT in FA. I wonder if Tesucky will tell them he feels like he can be Ed Reed now so they won\'t get rid of him. ;)

How many years did Sullivan sign up for in his contract? I think that it\'s up after this season. If he doesn\'t break into at least the regular rotation, if not start, he\'s not going to be in the league, or if he is, he\'ll be at minimums, and be a practice dummy. So what does that tell his next employer that he was look squading for 2 years on what some here will term the WORST DEFENSE OF ALL TIME. Hell, even I can fake enthusiasm when my meal ticket\'s on the line.

LordOfEntropy 03-06-2005 11:57 AM

If he fakes it well enough, though, then I\'m happy (whether he means it or not). The reason being he\'ll be more attractive as a trade.

If he were to come in, ready and in shape...It could potetially benefit us in a huge way...

It would be like having another 1st round rookie start for us..with the benefit of a few years of actual nfl knowledge...If he were to play up to his previous potential...

However...I will, like the rest , wait and see...He will have to earn back any trust or respect he may have recieved from fans and the team....and it\'s not going to be easy...

Do I agree that Sullivan is a bust? Hell no. He\'s been a bust so far but I\'m not ready to write him off.

Furthermore, I\'m not implying anything. I said what I mean and I mean what I say.

Don\'t kd yourself gumbo...

If Sullivan had been a Qb...He would have pretty much gottn Global recognition , of bieng one of, if not the worst bust in NFL history..

Luckily for him..He\'s not in a position that is as productive as QB...

But..yeah..he\'s a bust...He\'s borderline black balled from the team...If he doesn\'t step it up this year...he will probabaly be gone..I would say defenitely, but..Haslett and Venturi still have jobs...so, anything is possible

Let me make sure my keyboard is typing in English...

TEST: See Jane run. See Jane run fast. Yep, it\'s working... ;)

Sullivan has been a bust so far. I\'m HOPEFUL he can turn it around. He\'s got the talent to get the job done. It seems to me if he can get his head straight he might be able to do it.

Why take the most negative view possible?

I\'m gonna wait and see. What else can you do. Do you have a crystal ball or something or do you just like to think as negative as possible?

If a player has ample opportunity to play, as Sully did, then I think that \"bust\" can be determined after the rookie year. I think he is a bust until he proves otherwise.

Yep, most thought Drew Brees was a bust to. He had ample time to get the job done. The Chargers gave up on him and drafted a quaterback with their first pick.

Ya never know?! Which is what I said.

I wouldn\'t even be willing to re-annoint Drew Brees to the Chargers savior yet. Let\'s see how he does this year. If he bombs this year then he\'s a bust that had a fluke season.

The guy is a bust. He cost the Saints one year salary and 3 tons of hot dogs. Even if he shapes up this year he has too much to make up for that lost year. He\'d have to sack the qb more than anyone in the nfl and deflect passes every other passing play. If he does well then fine resign him at a discount or trade him. You don\'t reward laziness.

Take a deep breath, it\'s gonna be okay. Sully is still a Saint and it might be useful if this 1st round draft pick plays well for us this year.

What\'s to LOVE about a guy that didn\'t try last year and held out for big money? He stuffs his face on the sidelines and didn\'t even dress out. Oh sorry i have this \"Hate\" going but he didn\'t prove anything last year. Heck what was he supposed to say\" UMMM yeah I\'m gonna request ribs on the buffet this year while i sit and watch the game from the best seat in the house while making a killing doing it?\" Please. You can be positive but You take a deep breath and hold it for sully to perform to expectations and when you pass out I\'ll be there to grab your wallet ;)

Hey you want to discuss fine. When people dissagree with you they must be postal or angry or hateful? Just accept that some people are not as in love with sully as you are and are not just gonna praise the guy on his words alone. He does have a chance to prove himself but he cost this team a year, 2 draft picks, a huge salary, and embarrased the organization. Are you and Sully good friends or eat at the same buffet or something?

The ONLY way I can say that Sullivan would make good on his word...and, make up some lost time..and get some respect back...is to make the Pro Bowl next year...

2 first round picks is a lot to live up to I\'ll admit...but..at least show up ready to play...I find it hard to believe that he will be in good enough shape to even try to play...sitting on the bench, and sneaking away during games to eat like a pig are his best attributes thus far...

He did this to himself...and it\'s going to take more than just a verbal expression implying he might try to do better...

Pro Bowl or Bust...for real

I\'d like to say that I think the chance that this COULD is realized is very low, but I don\'t really see that this view is so bad. In light of Sullivan\'s recent comments, the chance that the COULD has gone up from near zero to slightly higher but still near zero.

Hey, no player hatin\', RDOX. Gumbo may be a lot of things, but only his wife or catamite can say them.

This lummox has played 2 years, not one, and has already received $11 million in guarranteed money. He\'s got another 5 years on his deal, and the cap hit would be pretty significant. My guess there\'s a void clause in the contract after this season, otherwise, why would the dump truck ever get motivated?

What I don\'t get is, Sullivan started 14 games his rookie season. He didn\'t have much of an impact, but he still started. Why??

Gumbo... I\'m so happy you are upbeat about Sully. Because you know what!??! I am too. That one day when this fat arse actually fulfills his potential, all of you will be eating your words.

As much as I\'ve been disappointed in this fool, I try to look for the best of this guy. Maybe he\'ll be a late bloomer, maybe he won\'t. But it\'s always better to think positive than think negative. Deep down inside I bet most of you guys would want to see this guy succedd. Papz ... I am hopeful Sully can turn it around. I have no idea what to expect from the guy. I haven\'t defended the guy in any of my posts.

It seems we\'ve got a few posters on this board who read what they want to read. Regardless of what Sully has done in the past, it would have an enormous impact on the defense IF Sully would play to his pontential.

I\'m not into this hating stuff. If someone feels that way, fine!

Well I certainly prefer his enthusiastic comments over \"I ain\'t gonna do squat\"

This is good news guys. Why would anyone want to cut the guy right now when...
A) He saying all the right things, which he previously didn\'t.
B) It would cost us much more to cut him than keep him.
C) Our well respected D-line coach has taken him under his wing with the intention of turning him around.
D) He has all the physical talent to be a flat dominant DT if he does get his attitude right.

There is absolutely no harm at all in keeping the guy and taking a wait and see approach. If its all BS and he comes into camp fat/lazy/ out of shape then yes, cut him right then and there.

But there is ZERO harm in giving him a chance. ZERO!

GoldenTomb 03-07-2005 08:30 AM

Jonathan Sullivan speaks!

I don\'t think anyone here is saying \"let\'s cut him\" or \"bench his fat butt\". I just think that we are highly skeptical, and rightfully so. I think all know that it would be far more costly to cut him at this point. If all else fails and he bombs again this year, he can be a speedbump for stadium parking.
