Make no mistake about it: The pressure is on the defense as the New Orleans Saints get ready to open training camp this week.

Two years of disappointing 7-9 finishes have left the Saints hungry for a taste of the playoffs.

No reason not to be optimistic; it's not like they can get any worse

Barring excessive injuries to key players, I think this defense should be in the low 20's minimum, and mid teens if all goes well.

low 20s in exactly what category? It's important. Yards, which seems to be a common figure really isn't so important. Four crucial categories:

1. Points.
2. Red Zone TD percentage
3. 3rd down percentage
4. Turnovers.

We cannot be in the low 20s in these categories. It needs to be in the mid teens to be effective.
