No. Payton is starting to play with receivers like he does his kickers. This signing makes no sense for starter reasons. And as someone said he's no leader. Everyone is relying on Drew making him better than he really is.

Payton told you this?

Really? sad pick if that was the goal.

I don't understand why that would be a goal at all. There are so many posts here recently about the receiver core needing leadership. But there isn't a single solitary shread of evidence that I can identify that justifies that need.

If we had receivers that had issues like Bryant from Pittsburgh or Gordon from Cleveland, then I could see the need. But has anyone seen anything from our receiver corps other than coming to work and producing?

What's this thought on the supposed leadership deficit? I really don't understand where this is coming from.

It's literally just a camp body signing, he may not even make it past the first wave of cuts.

We sent vincent Brown to IR so we signed another veteran to fill his spot.

If we desperately needed a WR to play and give leadership, boldin would have been signed.

We tried to sign Boldin, he preferred the Lions.

Keep in mind folks, Brandon Coleman isn't actually that good. He had a couple of drops in practice today. The competition for the 4th WR spot and potentially a 5th spot if we keep 5 is likely wide open.

Apparently we brought Boldin in but it was our choice not to sign him, Katherine Terrell of Nola.com said the saints haven't spoken to Boldin in months and it was just Rappoport talking BS again.

I believe that's the reality. I'm just trying to understand this perception that the Saints receivers needs a veteran leader.

Maybe. But why is there this seemingly pervasive feeling that the Saints need that type of play and leadership from the WR position?

I can buy that. But I'll keep pressing the question of why does that need to be a veteran WR to provide leadership to that group. Is it just a knee jerk reaction to Colston being gone?

There's no real production issue. Cooks, Sneed, and Coleman accounted for half the yards and 40% of the completions and passing TDs that the team had last year.

The 5th WR has to play on special teams. That means it's likely to be a young guy, not a vet.

Now maybe there is someone out there that can outplay Coleman. I'm presuming we all agree that Thomas will occupy the 3rd slot behind Cooks and Sneed.

So there's this call for the pressing need to fill the 4th WR position? What exactly is so urgent about that?
