Perhaps leadership had nothing at all to do with it?

Maybe they think he can fill in if we suffer injuries during the season?

Danno,

I'm not really asking about the reality of the situation. The reality of camp body or an extra guy that knows the offense and can be on speed dial makes perfect sense.

What I'm asking about the perception that the WR corps needs "veteran leadership" as if starting for an NFL squad for 2-3 years doesn't make you a veteran. I know it's coming from some feeling that something needs to be done. I'm just trying to understand where that feeling is coming from.

Many were al atwitter a the thought the Saints could sign Bolden. All I could wonder about is exactly where he would fit.

No it's obvious. My opinion was the rest of the post after the first sentence.

Because they were relying on getting CJ back but he went to the bears.

By "they" you means the fans that have the perception that the Saints needs additional veteran leadership? Or are you talking about the organization itself?

Still points to the same issue. Curtis Johnson had been gone from the Saints staff for several years. As I keep repeating over and over again:

Quote:

In 2015 the New Orleans Saints had the #1 passing offense in the NFL.
It's not the same situation as the defense last year, which was arguably the worst in the history of the league. Note that Rob Ryan was fired because of historically poor defensive performance over a 25 game span or so.

I just keep asking because it makes no logical sense. So there must be a feeping driving this. I just want someone to explain that feeling and make some kind of logical connection to reality.

AFAICT The Saints have no production issues at the receiver position. The Saints have no character issues at the receiving position. The Saints have no demonstrable coaching issues at the receiver position. The only argument that could be proffered is that there may be a depth and/or health issue at the position. That may make sense. But I just cannot see how a free agent veteran receiver is going to come in and displace Cooks, Sneed, and presumably Thomas for significant snaps in this offense.

So what exactly is this talk about Boldin, Nicks, Brown, etc. really about?

Maybe is just much ado about nothing. So unless I see a substantive argument as to why this is so crucial, I guess I'll just let this go.

We have a very young group of WR's. Bring in someone with experience?

Also not a bad idea to have someone in camp and use to the Saints system in case injury bug hits that unit so you can call him up.

That may be a question for Coach Payton to answer. Here is a quote from him earlier today after day #2 of TC.

Payton says he likes Nicks' veteran experience, infectious personality, good hands, ability in traffic. "Plus he wouldn't stop texting me."
