Mickey Loomis says Saints had every intention to return to Greenbrier
New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis began his press conference Wednesday by thanking The Greenbrier's staff for making sure the practice facilities were ready for the team despite the recovery efforts in the area after flooding damaged much of the area in June.
Loomis said the team never planned to move training camp, but wanted to make sure they wouldn't be a burden. "The first concern is everyone safe," Loomis said. "When you see the destruction in the photographs, then the question becomes how are the facilities? "My first call was here was 'Hey, we're coming as long as we're not a burden.'" Loomis cited the team's experience with disasters in New Orleans as one of the reasons the team was so eager to return. "I know how important it is for things to resume in a normal fashion," he said. "But we clearly wanted to make sure we weren't going to be a burden. The Greenbrier people said 'Hey, we want you to come. You won't be a burden. In fact it'll be just the opposite.'" The team opted to forgo the conditioning test instead using that time to cleanup a local park. ![]() read more | |
