Fairly and Rankins the key

Collapsing the middle of OLines is good way of helping DE make Sacks

Agree 100 percent. DBs don't have to cover as long and it shuts down running lanes. We still need at least two more DTs to play at least average when they need breathers or God forbid injuries but we are in a lot better shape at that position than last year.

Re: Fairly and Rankins the key

When QB's can't step up to avoid the push, NFL DE's will crush them.

We've seen it for a couple years with Drew Brees. He couldn't step up and launch and the outside rush zeros in on him quickly.

That was the value of a Nicks, Goodwin and Evans in their prime. Drew was always able to step up to avoid the outside rush and launch.

It appears we may now have that push we need for our outside guys to shine.

Re: Fairly and Rankins the key

That's why outside tackles are taught to push their DE's outside or at worst case scenario in a full circle, because the O line is designed to let the QB step up.

If the guards get pushed back atleast 2-3 yards then the QB will hesitate and retreat slightly, thats when the DE's come flying in.

Cam Jordan got double digit sacks without a good DT or even a decent DE on the opposite side, that shows how good of a player he is.

I hOpe Nick's injury isn't too bad because by the sounds of it he is having a really good offseason, etc

JL in the middle with Ellerbe on the outside is big too. Throw in Lewis and Byrd for good measure. LOL.

Any updates on Nick? I understand he left practice and did not return.

Hopefully it was minor.

We have been hurting up front for years.
That's why our DBs have looked so bad.
Only Jordan has been consistent.
Kikaha and Anthony both played well last year.
Solid play up front in the middle would set the stage for some outstanding defense.
How long have we been waiting for some of that?
The talk is that things are already looking better on the defensive side of the ball.
If we can just get off the field on 3rd and long, that's at least 4 more wins.

Rankins, Fairley, Davison and maybe Jenkins should provide some much needed pocket pressure. Along with Jordan I believe Onyemata can slide inside too. DA might just get good pressure with his defensive tackles now.
