Saints Sign Matt Shaughnessy

I didn't see this coming after signing Darryl Tapp.

Matt is a big man. If anything, I could see Allen putting him @ DE (base). Our ineptitude to set the edge on those huge run gashes could be part of the reason for this signing. Not sure how much he has left but maybe he can lead by example. Saints did bring him in for a work out back in late April of this year. Hopefully he is fully healthy.

FWIW, Dennis Allen was the HC while Matt was with the Oakland Raiders.

I know they say OLB but in Oakland he played DE and DA knows the guy so there must be something there or there is enough respect to give him an honest shot. Great run stuffer when healthy

Are you sure that they passed on him? It could be that he passed on them. Plus, the Saints have a money market account named Drew Brees that can be tapped into at any time.

Quite possible & no I'm not sure however I recently read Florio and Keim report that even with the recent loss of Junior, the Redskins were not looking to fill the void with a veteran pass rushing specialist. According to reports, they intend to roll with Sua' Cravens & P Smith vs signing a proven commodity in Dwight.

I'd hate for him to end up in Atlanta (see Osi Umenyiora).
